  • Purpose & The Meaning of Life (Ecclesiastes 12)

    11/02/2018 Duración: 38min

Selected Quotes: Live with God in mind. Make your choices while looking to Him. Doing this saves us from the kind of meaningless existence Solomon cautions us against. If we look for meaning in anything other than God, we are going to be utterly disappointed by it. Everything you have and everything you are given by Him. One day, God will ask you what you did with that gift. What we do matters today because it will matter in eternity. ------ “If you could write a letter to your 18-year-old self, what would you say?” Most 18-year-olds have heads full of hopes and dreams. They look forward to the future and everything it holds for them. Most can envision where they want to be and how they’re going to get there. The promises and the possibilities seem endless. At some point, however, the future becomes the present, and the possibilities start to dry up. Life has a funny way of subverting our expectations and changing our

Selected Quotes: "Wisdom is found in dealing with reality, not living in fantasy." "No matter the season, God can bring beauty to it. " "There is beauty to be found in any season. " "At every turn, Jesus knew what time it was. He knew what to do and when to do it. And, when the time came for Him to die, it was all according to God’s timing, as well." "[God is] navigating us through every season so that we might know Him and worship Him more deeply. " "God looks over the course of eternity and sees it all. He sees all of life from beginning to end and on into eternity. " "God has a greater perspective than I do. I can’t see what He sees. I can’t know what He knows. All I can do is trust that He is in control of it." --- “If you could write a letter to your 18-year-old self, what would you say?” Most 18-year-olds have heads full of hopes and dreams. At some point, however, the future becomes the present, and the possibilities start to dry up. Life has a funny way of subverting our expectations and changing our plans. Our own foolish mistakes can sabotage the future we had in mind for ourselves. For most of us, the future we envisioned at 18 isn’t the reality we currently live in. “If you could write a letter to your 18-year-old self, what would you say?” In a sense, the Old Testament book of Ecclesiastes seeks an answer to that question. • A New Year's Prayer (I Kings 8)

    31/12/2017 Duración: 36min

Prayer is going to God and admitting that He is greater than us, He is better than us, and He can do more than us. Our knowledge of what God has done in the past gives us the confidence to pray in the present. If you pretend like you have no sin, the only person you are fooling is you.

  • The Feet of a Servant

    05/11/2017 Duración: 34min

We live in a world in desperate need of servants. From the time we’re young, selfishness comes naturally to us. We want to do what we want to do. We want to live the way we want to live. We want to act the way we want to act. Even when the Bible confronts us with our own selfishness, it’s difficult for us to shake those old habits. It’s hard to be a servant in a world that tells you to be selfish. Throughout the course of the Gospels, Jesus made His purpose abundantly clear. He didn’t come to this earth for selfish reasons. He came to serve. He came to give His life. Everything Jesus did was motivated by His desire to serve. Those who want to be better servants have no better example than Him. In our new sermon series, “Building a Better Servant,” we’re going to spend four weeks looking at Jesus’ life to see what made Him such a great servant. As we walk through the events of Jesus’ life together, we’ll see what a serv

    08/10/2017 Duración: 36min

This year, River Valley Christian Church celebrates its 20th Anniversary. For two decades now, this body of believers has been holding out the hope of the Gospel to Oldham County and beyond. As a congregation, we want to honor that milestone, More importantly, we want to rejoice in the God who has proven Himself faithful over that time period. But what about the next 20 years? Where is God going to take us from here? At the beginning of this year, we identified three core values as a congregation. We want to be a church that is Kingdom-Minded, Bible-Centered, and Family-Focused. We believe these three values are going to propel us into the next two decades of ministry. So, what do those values look like? How are we going to make sure that we’re headed down the right path? On September 10, we’re going to begin “2020 Vision.” In that series, we’ll talk about where God is leading us as a church and how we’re going to get there together. As we unpack the pract
