Sinopsis

At a time when music is at its most ubiquitous and supply is everywhere, what is it that makes us as artists continue to create and do what we do? The Bottom Of It is a podcast hosted by LA based New Zealander Joshua Moriarty, a musician, songwriter and performer with both Miami Horror & All The Colours. These candid conversations philosophise and muse over the music industry, the highs and lows of the road, what music offers to the world and what being an artist gives back to the people of this planet. Its also just a relaxed one-on-one chat between musicians with a host that has plenty of years experience and isnt afraid to tackle any issue and have a laugh about it.

Whether it’s playing with his dad Neil Finn in Crowded House or singing alongside Eddie Vedder, opening for Queens Of The Stone Age or Coldplay or Wilco (and heaps more!), Liam has done it and nailed it. 29/06/2018 Duración: 01h24min

Sam Stewart is a tasteful shredder who plays guitar in Lo Moon. They released their debut album earlier this year and it’s a ripper! The record was produced by Chris Walla from Death Cab For Cutie and Francois Tetaz and sounds lush. We sat down to discuss being a curmudgeon, having parents who were famous in the 80s, always trying to be a ‘purple cow’ and thinking Drake is rubbish. All music on the podcast by Joshua Moriarty & All The Colours

  • Ep. 23 - Sebastien Grainger ( Death From Above )

    04/06/2018 Duración: 01h18min

Sebastien Grainger is the voice and skins man of Death From Above. He has one of the great rock voices and has been one of my favourite singers for years. The latest Death From Above album was produced by Eric Valentine ( Queens Of The Stone Age, Slash ) and sounds incredible! Alain Johannes is one of the great musicians of our time. From working closely with Chris Cornell to playing guitar in Them Crooked Vultures alongside Josh Homme and John Paul Jones or touring the world with PJ Harvey, he always brings a unique character and excellence to everything he is involved with. His two solo records ‘Spark’ and ‘Fragments & Wholes, Vol. 1.” are brilliant and showcase both his voice and virtuosity as a guitar player. I sat down with Alain to discuss inhabiting the emotional space of each of his songs, bootlegging his own albums, avoiding red light fever and living in this current moment on planet earth.

  • Dhani Harrison ( Composer/Performer )

    27/10/2017 Duración: 57min

Dhani Harrison is rock n roll royalty. His first solo record to be released under his name is entitled ‘In Parallel’ and it is a sonic journey through the mind of a deep spiritual thinker and musical auteur. • ep.20 - Nic Offer ( !!! )

    26/09/2017 Duración: 01h02min

Nic Offer is the frontman of punk-funk band !!! ( Chk Chk Chk ). The band formed in 1995 and have been putting out records ever since. Their latest release ‘Shake The Shudder’ is an on-point and virile piece of work that stands strong amongst the current musical landscape. • Alan Palomo ( Neon Indian )

    24/08/2017 Duración: 01h22min

Alan Palomo is the man behind Neon Indian. He is a multi-talented artist who pioneered the chill-wave movement when he released his debut album in 2009. However, his skills far surpass such an ephemeral label and he has been experimental and progressive in his approach to both music and cinematography since arriving on the scene. We sat down to discuss the democratisation of artistic exposure, trying to break up with yourself, cooking, and mourning the corrosion of objective reality.

We sat down to discuss musical therapy, putting yes back into the equation, the world being sung into existence and lots more.

  • Jon Toogood ( Shihad/The Adults )

    13/06/2017 Duración: 01h08min

Jon Toogood is the frontman of New Zealand rock band Shihad. Shihad are one of a small percentage of N.Z. bands that has had a giant impact on every working N.Z. musician over the last 20 years, myself especially. We sat down to discuss becoming a bass player, the addictive nature of social media, making a record completely sober and being grateful everyday to be able to do what we do as musicians.

  • Dan Mack ( Art vs Science )

    11/05/2017 Duración: 01h33min

Dan Mack is one third of Australian party act Art vs Science. Dan is a brilliant musician and a performer I respect very much. We got together to discuss breaking the rules, starting a cult and not being afraid to say what you think.

  • Monte Morgan ( Client Liaison )

    10/04/2017 Duración: 36min

Monte Morgan is one half of Australian pop act Client Liaison. They have been making a name for themselves with their ever evolving live show, brilliantly executed music videos and their tight musical productions. These guys make sure no detail is missed in the creation of their aesthetic and I love it. We sat down to talk Prince, Australiana, drinking Fosters and plenty more.

  • Jamie Timony ( MOSSY, These New South Whales )

    10/04/2017 Duración: 36min

Jamie Timony is a star, he’s got all the right stuff. His project 'MOSSY' is an eccentric mix of 90’s trip-hop, classic crooner styles and progressive pop. He is also lead singer of Sydney punk outfit 'These New South Whales' who have a mockumentary series under the same name based on the Australian music scene. We got together to talk about who he really is, whether it’s the spineless Jamie from These New South Whales or the character who sings the songs in MOSSY, what it is to be an artist and how a good song can make you want to kick over a wheelie bin.

  • Hamilton Leithauser ( Singer/Songwriter )

    06/02/2017 Duración: 29min

Hamilton Leithauser is the voice of The Walkmen. With that band being on an indefinite Hiatus after releasing their last album ‘Heaven’ in 2012, Hamilton has begun a solo career beginning with his album Black Hours in 2014. He recently collaborated with Rostam from Vampire Weekend on their record together ‘I Had A Dream That You Were Mine’ which has received a lot of praise critically. We sat down to discuss rock n roll, having music drive you mad, being a solo artist versus being in a band and trying to find new ways to become inspired.

  • Mayer Hawthorne ( songwriter/producer )

    06/02/2017 Duración: 01h27s

Mayer Hawthorne is the funk/soul alias of Drew Cohen. He has been making records under that moniker since 2009 when he released his debut album ‘A Strange Arrangement’ to critical acclaim. He recently started a project with Jake One called Tuxedo which is a modern take on West coast G-Funk. We sat down to discuss the dark side of the music industry, the fine line between plagiarism and inspiration and the elusive 13th note.

  • Francois Tetaz ( Producer )

    22/01/2017 Duración: 01h01min

Francois Tetaz is an Australian music producer best known for his Grammy award winning collaboration with Gotye, ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ featuring Kimbra. I visited him at one of the studios he works from in LA ( where he now resides with his family ) to discuss what it is to be a producer and how he came up with the mantra, ‘I may be slow, but at least I’m expensive’.

  • Jordan Blilie ( The Blood Brothers, Head Wound City )

    22/01/2017 Duración: 01h05min

Jordan Blilie was one of two vocalists in The Blood Brothers, one of my favourite bands of all time. His current band Head Wound City is brilliant and plays music of a similar style, very intense and guitar driven, it is what wikipedia describes as a ‘noisegrind supergroup’. We talked rock n roll diplomacy, playing in a band with your friends from high school, politics, lyric writing, and what the dream really is.

  • Kimbra ( Musician/Performer )

    15/12/2016 Duración: 54min

Kimbra is a force, a one of a kind artist that can’t be boxed in or slowed down. She has put out 2 critically acclaimed albums which are both considerably different from one another, has been handed a Grammy by Prince, hangs out making tunes with David Byrne, you name it and she has probably done it. We sat down to talk about what it means to be an ever evolving artist, how to find joy in this industry and how to ’trust the process’.
