Roman Tomanov (@romantomanov) was born in Moscow, Russia inside a circus family. His father was his coach. He began public performances at the age of 5.  After immigrating to the US (and resideing in Las Vegas at a young age), Roman has performed with the largest theatrical production company in the world, Cirque du Soleil. His most recent appearance is with KURIOS the Cabinet of Curiosities. In addition to aerial acts, Roman is a trained performer in bungee, trampowall, flying harness, break dance and movie stunts.  What’s interesting about this conversation is that Roman and I didn’t intend it to be a podcast episode. Therefore you’ll find the style a bit different than pervious episodes, my questions are shorter, so are Roman’s answers in many cases. This week on Feisworld, we are joined by a lovely young lady named Anny Laplante. Anny is a "flyer" currently performing with Circus 1903 in a breathtaking act called Russian Cradle Duo.  Russian Cradle Duo is a famously known circus act, where the aerialist being propelled is referred to as a "flyer" (that's Anny), while the one doing the tossing and catching is referred to as a "carrier" (or "catcher"). The flyer usually starts and ends by standing on the frame above the catcher. The flyer then swings holding on to the catcher’s hands, performs releases at the top of the swing, and is re-caught in mid-air.  There are many technical aspects in terms of the strength and speed required for the tossing and throwing to be possible. Needless to say that this act is very challenging and dangerous.  I was covered with tears when I first watched Anny perform in one of my favorite Cirque du Soleil show called KURIOS. David is currently touring in the US in a circus called Circus 1903,  a brand new show from the producers of The Illusionists and the puppeteers of War Horse. It's a fun celebration of the golden age of circus. Their most recent stop was in Boston, MA. (Feisworld HQ!) I fell in love with David's performance instantly. The audience was naturally and completely captivated by his words, his humor, and his incredible talent of improvising with children ages 5-9 on stage. To my surprise, David isn't a trained ringmaster, but a professional magician. He has been featured on ABC's Champions of Magic, where he appeared with Princess Stephanie as he performed his miracles at different locations in and around Monaco. Working as a magician is a career very few people can pull off. How did David become a magician and sustain a career for decades? In 2016, Dr Marianna Glusman co-authored a book with Dr. Marta Killner called I Love You Like Sunshine: How everyday play and bedtime stories grow love, connections and brainpower, a book for babies and parents. Dr. Glusman has been a pediatrician for 20 years, who also raised three beautiful children of her own. She has heard hundreds of parents joke about needing a parenting manual. The usual worries about eating, peeing, pooping, rashes, sneezing and so on are easy for a pediatrician to handle, but many of the questions underlying those practical concerns are not as simple "How will I be a parent? Katie Clark (aka @InsightsGal on Twitter), is a hybrid market research manager, social media diva, project manager based in Portland, Maine. She revealed that she was adopted, as well as several other family members. After finding out that Katie wasn't going to have children of her own, she began pursuing adoption. The journey of adopting a child was no straight line. It is also complicated and incredibly expensive with no guarantee. In this episode, Katie explains the trial and error she had experienced even before finding the right agency to work with. Her two identical twin girls are no short of a miracle. Before they became candidates for adoption, the twins made headline in the news in Beijing in 2013 (Here's one of many articles).
