Is it inevitable to associate negativity, constant fear with aging? David challenged himself to a better question: What are we doing about this? Will Collins (@WillumsFillum) is the screenplay writer for the Irish animation Song of the Sea, about a young Irish boy named Ben, and his little sister Saoirse, a girl who can turn into a seal, go on an adventure to free the faeries and save the spirit world. Will took me on a journey of his own, from the inception of the idea for Song of the Sea, to how Will was introduced as a writer, working closely with Tomme Moore, co-founder of Cartoon Saloon, director and illustrator for the film. When Song of the Sea was nominated to win an Oscar, Will was invited to join a luncheon with the world's greatest filmmakers and artists. He sat down next to Richard Linklater, the director for Boyhood (A Moving 12 Year Epic That Isn't Quite Like Anything Else in the History of Cinema). • Ep 79 (Mini): My Favorite Apps for Meditation and Self Care

    06/10/2016 Duración: 16min

2016 has been an eventful year.  Some good, some not so good. Via phone calls, text messages, personal emails, I learn about struggles, divorces and illnesses. The worst fear of all is possibly taking of care of a sick spouse or child. Unfortunately, life isn’t without hurdles. And when it rains, it pours. I don’t come close to knowing all the answers. But having experienced family medical issues with my father back in 2008-2009, I know intimately what it feels like to be desperate and hopeless.  That’s when I sought out a support network – a combination of trusted friends, psychiatrists, activities, software and mobile apps. For the purpose of this blog post, I’ll focus on mobile apps. These are the most accessible outlets for mild to moderate anxiety. However, they do not replace social networks and medical treatments for severe depression and emotional trauma. Enjoy, Fei   --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/feisworld/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/feisworld/support

  • Ep 67 (Mini): Financial vs. Spiritual Independence

    19/07/2016 Duración: 12min

What's more important - financial or spiritual independence? https://www.feisworld.com/blog/financial-vs-spiritual-independence To answer this question, I want to share a few personal stories from my childhood (in Beijing, China) to my transition as a high school student in the US. What is it like to grow up as a woman in the 21st Century? How do career, womanhood, motherhood intersect? How and when do we learn our own set of personal values? Before we dive in, I want to clarify that "spiritual" here does not refer to religion, rather we are discussing the human spirit. Thank you for joining me on Feisworld Mini - a series of 5-10 mins episodes that share thoughts and observations from podcast host Fei Wu. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/feisworld/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/feisworld/support

  • Ep 64 (Mini): Three Unusual Ways to Generate Revenue Through Your Podcast

    01/06/2016 Duración: 10min

Many people asked me if there are ways to make decent money effortlessly through running a podcast. If the answer is no, then they ask “What’s the point?” By the way, if you are new to podcasting, every 10,000 downloads translate to just about $400 in sponsorship revenue. Most podcasts struggle to reach 10,000 downloads per month and $400 a month isn’t enough for anyone to work on a project full time. Podcasting can be labor-intensive. On average, it takes hours (if not days) to produce one episode. Running a quality podcast, seeking interesting guests is a great deal of work. Getting people to listen to your podcast is no easy task. But, the monetization model doesn’t need to downloads exclusively. This blog post covers some of the unusual factors and opportunities to making a profit through podcasting. I actually think these methods are much easier than the usual path, which is to grow your podcast to X number of downloads per month (usually in the millions), then look into sponsorship opportunities.
