  • GSMC Baseball Podcast Episode 594: Mickey Mantle & League Updates

    19/09/2021 Duración: 01h26min

Patrick opens today's show with an oral history of the career of Mickey Mantle. This was a man who had a lot of pain, his body betrayed him at almost every turn. Mantle is believed to have torn his ACL during his rookie season, and to have played with a partially torn ACL his entire career. Evidence does point to this toward the end of his career, where Mantle would fall to the ground in pain after taking a swing. Even still, Mantle had one of the greatest careers in the history of the game, and even with his injury history, he still was a 5-tool player. Mantle had every tool possible, had one of the best careers in baseball history, and he was hurt for most of it. Following the Mickey Mantle talk, Patrick moves on to give a stat update. He also makes a case for Bryce Harper and Valadamir Guerro Jr. to win their league's MVP award. Both players do deserve it, but do they get the award? Only time will tell. Patrick ends today's show with a standing and wild card update for everyone. If you enj

Following Ryan Bruan, Patrick talks about how the San Fransico Giants have become the first team to clinch a playoff spot! From there Patrick goes into a three-part oral history of the amazing career of Larry Walker. Arguably the greatest Canadian baseball player of all-time, he is also one of the most forgotten players of his generation. Granted with polarizing players like Randy Johnson, Barry Bonds, Ken Griffey Jr., and so many others it is hard to know who everyone is. However, Larry Walker's 1997 MVP winning season is the best all-around season that anyone has ever had. This Hall of Famer deserves to have his career remembered. This no-hitter was historical in more ways than one, and Kevin breaks down all of the stats and figures that attributed to this historical outing. Kevin wraps up the show talking about Max Scherzer joining the exclusive 3,000 strikeout fraternity. Max is the 19th member of this club, which has fewer members than the 300 hit club, the 500 HR club, and the Perfect Game club.
