Christopher's Nolan first film is damn fascinating. I feel like I learned a lot about Nolan based on this piece of work and I'm really happy that Chris suggested it. If you haven't watched it, do so. We're all ugly, dying sacks of shit. But we're okay with it. This week we talk Swiss Army Man, Easily one of the best and most original movies to come out this year. You know when you talk to a film major or teacher and they tell you that you should watch old cinema. Not 70's cinema, but like old 40's and 50's cinema because it's amazing and there's an insane amount to learn from it but you blow him off cause CGI is cool. Yeah, fuck you. old Cinema's amazing and Rashomon is proof of that. Kurosawa's classic is a brilliant character study and social examination of what is "Truth". It's timeless for a reason. We thought it was a excellent movie with great exploration of the effect of capitalist greed on a person that can't help but live in excess. We decided to devote an entire episode to Jim Carrey, some people may say he's not that talented of an actor or that his comedy hits the low end of the shelf, but he's given us an insane amount of laughs and some very good Dramas and we fucking love him. Finally! After talking about it since before the Podcast started we've finally done an episode on Jackie Brown. It's a delightful crime thrill movie in that delightful early Tarantino style that I love so much. Genuinely fun movie and in my opinion Tarantino's 2nd best film.If you haven't watched it, we recommend it. Not only is it fun, but the editing is great to look at if you're looking to be an editor or just want to appreciate careful structuring. Hell or High Water, the first movie covered in the podcast that we actually when to see in theaters. We enjoyed the hell out of this movie, the cinematography was gorgeous, the characters were a lot of fun and the writing felt solid from beginning to end. We highly recommend it! Mulholland Drive! We really have no idea what the hell is going on in this film, but I honestly don't think we're supposed to. It's a great movie because it can mean what you get out of it. This is one of my favourite movies and I was so happy when Chris decided to talk about it. I love this damn movie so much. It's genuinely my idea of a modern masterpiece, whether it's the perfectly paced dialogue and extremely complex themes of guilt, purgatory, the afterlife and the consequences of one's actions packed into digestible nuggets of wisdom disguised as comedy. It's brilliant, go watch it.
