Most of us have been exposed to the idea of Kink and BDSM in some form or another. Sometimes through a sanitized Hollywood-esque version like 50 Shades of Gray. Or (more likely) through male centric, online pornography. Neither of which bare much resemblance to reality. This month, we take a peak into (just a few) aspects of the Kink world. Sacramento’s 2018 Measure U was a divisive tax initiative that sparked heated debate, especially between those who support affordable housing, and those who oppose police brutality. And the reason why these two constituencies would find themselves at odds, dates back nearly 40 years.

Sacramento, California was first incorporated in 1850. That year would prove to be one of the young cities most harrowing; that it survived that year, let alone the remainder of the 1850's, is astonishing.
