MARK 1:1-11 Staying balanced amidst the competing expectations of others requires you to make pleasing God by meeting His expectations your primary goal in life.

Mark 9:2-29 After a “mountaintop” experience with God we can become disillusioned when we have to return to our everyday lives. Naturally, it’s hard to balance being overwhelmed with God’s presence on the mountaintop with being confronted everyday with unbelievers, sickness, and demonic activity. It’s hard to balance times when we clearly hear God’s voice with times when He is silent. Despite the seemingly deep contrasts in our experiences, as believers we stay balanced when we realize that God is present with us on the mountaintops and in the valleys. When we cannot hear God’s voice like we would like to, He is still moving powerfully in our lives and in the lives of the people around us.

Matthew 24-25 How do we sustain the changes that God makes in our lives, both in near and far future, given the fact that we live in a world full of dysfunction, deception, and destruction? In the face of such blatant sinfulness and selfishness it is only natural for us to fall back into our old ways of living, believe lies, or lose hope. In His last major discourse, Jesus shares with us at least three practical ways we can sustain the true changes that God makes in our lives and ultimately endure to the end.

Matthew 18:1-35 Think about pressure-packed interactions you’ve had with others - when you’ve hurt someone else, how did you respond? What about when someone else hurt you - how did you respond? Your response in those pressure-packed interactions is a great way to know just how truly changed you really are. In Matthew 18, Jesus addresses both of these situations and in the process gives us four indicators of a truly changed life.

Matthew 13:1-52 The source of a truly changed life is God’s Word. After we acknowledge that we need God’s help making changes, He will start changing our life in small ways. But these small changes should not discourage us, because in the end they will have a long-lasting, positive impact on our relationships. In this sermon, we will learn that the degree to which we experience change is dependent on our response to God’s Word and our ability to not compare ourselves to others.

Matthew 10 How has God truly changed your life? Like me, you can probably testify that the  some of the smallest changes have the greatest impact on your life. By continually  acknowledging God has the source of those changes and courageously sharing your  story I am confident that you will make an eternal difference in someone’s life.  Therefore, share now. Don’t wait and don’t be afraid because God is with you. And  if that is not enough, then ask a friend to help you share how God has truly changed  your life.

Starting a truly changed life begins with changing how we think about ourselves. Only when we think about ourselves in the ways that Jesus describes can we begin building the good relationships that will sustain us when our circumstances are difficult.

There is only one gospel as recorded by four different authors. Their accounts are connected and contribute to the prerequisites people have prior to expressing faith in Jesus.

SCRIPTURES: Malachi 1:1-14; Matthew 7:21-23 SUMMARY: The prophet Malachi wrote at a time when the nation of Israel faced a major problem. The people of God had grown complacent in their worship, falling into the trappings of religion rather than walking in genuine relationship with God. As we examine how Malachi addressed Israel’s half-hearted worship of God, we can learn to identify unhealthy religious tendencies in our own lives and can be encouraged to pursue the kind of sincerity God calls us to develop and demonstrate.

When we are rebuilding our lives we need to prioritize our relationship with God. When our primary pursuit is honoring God, then He will rebuild and restore our lives in ways we never could. Enjoy the sermon!

Jesus is our Prince of Peace and when we come close to Him, like those shepherds did, He transforms us and our outlook. No matter how bad the storm swirling around and within us, Jesus can calm it and carry us through it.

The joy God gives flows deep within our spirits and outward because Jesus Christ, our Savior, is with us, always loving, always working, even in the midst of any hardship we will face.

When Jesus came into our world as a baby, He came as Immanuel, God with Us. Jesus came as love incarnate. This Advent season we remember when love came to us.

Hope is the flicker of maybe, just maybe. Hope is the fuel of faith and dreams. And hope is what we celebrate during Advent.
