Andy Talks

Today in our journey we see Andy in front of a place that gives him purpose and mission.  We are called to live beyond ourselves, to live for a purpose and a calling greater than just our own desires. We may not always know what that is. God will show us.  

In his sermon from August 23, Andy shares with us from Abraham's life as found in Genesis 18: 1-15.  At time when he was tired and exhausted, God sent to him revival.  He will do the same for us.  

Join Andy this week as he journeys to several places of deep meaning in his life. As we travel together, each day we'll ask a couple of questions for us to reflect upon.  Today, we see Andy leaving home and asking us this key question.  Who are you? 

In our Friday time together, we look at Cokesbury hymn 207.  This beautiful hymn tells us that there will come a day with no more labor, no more pain, no more hurt, not more loss.  No more clouds.  Let's remember today that this world is not our home.  

Today in our journey with the Cokesbury, we look at an old favorite of many of ours, Brining in the Sheaves, number 165.  This is a beautiful song that paints the Christian life as one of faithful labor in the field.  But we will reap in time! 

As we continue with our week in the Cokesbury hymnal, today we look at hymn 141, The Way of the Cross Leads Home.  This hymn reminds us that it is through the blood of the cross that we are forgiven and that we are able to return to our home with God. 

Today we look at hymn 100 in the Cokesbury, Let the Lower Lights be Burning.  This hymns paints a powerful picture of God's grace and mercy as a lighthouse, callings sailors to the shore.  We, though tend that that light.  

In his sermon, Andy looks at Noah's story, as found in Genesis 6 and 7.  We see God call Noah. And then he waited. What did Noah do as he waiting on the rain? 

This week we are going to look at different hymns from the old Cokesbury hymnal.  To we look at one of Andy's favorites, number 177.  It is entitled "Others" and shows us a beautiful way forward for living life.  

In our reading today we see that Jesus passed by His hometown because they could not hear the truth from Him.  Today, don't let someone's criticism of you affect your faithfulness, and be sure to listen for all the ways that God may want to speak to you.

Today we see many Samaritans come to believe in Jesus, not just because of the women's word, but because they have heard for themselves.  Do we tell others?  Do we hear ourselves?  

Today we see John's disciples come to him and tell him that people are leaving them to follow Jesus.  John faces a choice, he can humble himself and continue to Jesus, or he can cling to his pride.  His choice is a great lesson for us today

We look today at Acts 6. What does it mean to talk about calling?  Or service?  Or finding our place.  This passage has much to teach us. 

In our message from August 9, 2020 Andy shares with us from Genesis 4: 1-10.  We look deeper at Able and see how his faith led him to be joyfully obedient. 

In our Monday reflections, Andy shares with us from John 3: 16-17.  In this passage, we see the verse we all know so well, and that verse shares with us the truth that God loves the entire world and desires for each person to come to a saving knowledge in Jesus. We see that God is for us.

In our Friday reflections, we look at Acts 2: 1-12.  This is the famous story, Jesus' first miracle, turning water into wine at the wedding in Cana. But what is so interesting in this passage, is this, the only people who knew what Jesus was doing were those who served. What could this mean for us today? 

Today is the day we remember the Transfiguration of Jesus.  In Matthew 17: 1-10 we see Jesus transformed into the fullness of His glory and we see Peter, James, and John overcome at the total awesomeness of Jesus in his divine state.  This gives us pause, when was the last time we were truly overcome and overwhelmed by the glory, power, and majesty of who Jesus is?  Today, we see Him in His glory.

In our Wednesday morning reflection, we look today at Acts 3: 17-20.  This is part of the sermon that Peter preaches after the healing of yesterday.  Here we see Peter urge people to repent and find Jesus, knowing that He will bring refreshment.  In our exhaustion and weariness of this moment, Jesus will come, bringing grace and bringing refreshment.
