Andy Talks

In our Wednesday Night Bible Study, Andy shares with us one of the essentials to a United Methodist and Wesleyan understanding of Christian life - what is often called the Scripture Way of Salvation.  In this study we look closer at prevenient, justifying, and sanctifying grace.  

Today we continue our look at the shelves of scripture.  Today we are the histories.  These books tell us about the history of the covenant and of the Jewish people.  Many of the stories that we know so well are found here.

In our Tuesday reflections, we start our look at Scripture as a "bookshelf."  We'll start our shelf by placing our first books on there, the Torah, or the books of Moses. These books are very important in understanding the Old Testament and all of Scripture.

In our message from Sunday, Andy shares from Joshua 2: 1-21.  In this passage, we look at Rahab. We see that her faith motivated her to take bold action of faith.  Today, what does our faith cause us to do? 

In the next two weeks in our reflections, we are going to be looking at what is sometimes called "the shelves."  How is scripture organized?  How does it all fit together?  We'll look at the Bible the next few weeks as a bookshelf as we seek to understand it better.

In today's reading, we see a charge leveled against the Christians. They turned the world upside down. What a powerful thing to have had said against you. The world was not the same because of them.  May they say the same thing about us today! 

In our weekly study, we continue looking at the Eight Life Enriching Practices of United Methodists.  The next few weeks we are going to look at some Methodist distinctive.  Tonight we'll look look at the Wesleyan Quadrilateral. This is how we do our reflection.  We start with Scripture and we add to it, Tradition, Reason, and Experience. What this mean and look like?  Join us and learn more.  

In our reading today, we see Paul and Silas in prison, when something amazing happens.  How they handle this changes their lives as well as the lives of all the folks around them.  They live in such a way that folks get saved.  That should be our mission as well.  

In our reading today, we see Jesus share with us some controversial words.  We must hate our lives.  What does this mean?  What could He be talking about? Join us as we go a little deeper today.

In our reading today from Job we look at God's continued response to Job.  We see that God tells Job about all the great things that He has done.  What does this mean to the living of our faith today? 

In his Sunday sermon from September 13, 2020 Andy look at Exodus 32: 7-14. In this passage we see Moses and God having a conversation where Moses changes God's mind. What exactly is happening here?  And what can this tells us about our faith today? 

Today we look at Number 21: 4-9.  Moses lifts high the image of the serpent, and all who are bitten by the snakes are saved.  What does this tell us about grace, the cross, and Gods' redemptive power?  

In our weekly Bible Study looking at the Eight Life Enriching Practices of United Methodists, today we look at what we hold in common with the Southern Baptist, Presbyterian, and Charismatic Churches

In his message from Sunday, September 6, 2020, Andy shares with us from Genesis 50: 15-21.  In this passage, we look at how God used all the things that happened in Joseph's life to bring him to a place to save his people.  God uses all things for good.  And if you've never heard Andy's testimony, he shares at the end.  

In our weekly Bible Study looking at the Eight Life Enriching Practices of United Methodists, today we look at what we hold in common with the Roman Catholic Church and with the Episcopal/Anglican Churches. 

In our Sunday Sermon from August 30, 2020, Andy looks a Genesis 27. We see Issac and Jacob and truthfully when we look at them, we don't see much commendable. That is the scandal of grace and who God uses!  

Today in our final stop on this week of travels we take a stop at a place of great peace for Andy.  In our lives, we all seek peace.  How do we know it?  How do we have it?  How can peace be ours?  

Today in our journey with Andy, we talk about grief and pain.  We visit a place of tragedy.  We all have tragedies in our lives. They all look different, but they all hurt.  How do we handle that hurt?  That is one of the key questions of life. 

In our Wednesday night Bible Study, Andy begins his study on the book Eight Life Enriching Practices of United Methodists.  Tonight, he talks about the three things that all Christians hold in common: the Creeds, Scripture, and the Sacraments.  

Today in our journey with Andy, we stop at a place you've heard a lot about through the years, a place that defines a lot about who he is.  A place of community.  We all need people to love us and people who we love.
