With Mack Brown being formally introduced on Tuesday as the new head football coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels, a new chapter for UNC football is about to begin. When Inside Carolina broke the story on Monday that Brown was going to be named as head coach, the initial reactions from both the UNC fanbase and national media to the news were mixed. Concerns were raised about Brown’s age, as well as the fact that he had been out of coaching for several years. As UNC prepares for its season finale against NC State this Saturday, football recruiting is beginng to pick up the pace after being in a bit of a downswing over the past month. Over this past weekend, Carolina received an official visit from four star in-state QB Sam Howell, whose current commitment to Florida State may be wavering. The Tar Heels have remained in constant contact with Howell, and the fact that his first official visit was to Chapel Hill has given UNC fans hope that he might ultimately select the Heels for his college decision. With only two games left in the 2018 season, Carolina finds itself in desperate need for victories as the year comes to a close.
