While the conference portion of the basketball season is in full swing, recruiting season continues to move forward for Coach Roy Williams. Already this season Coach Williams and his staff have viewed multiple players from the 2020, 2021 classes, and have been working on trying to get as many of their top targets on campus for visits as possible. Once such target in the 2021 class that has recently received a viewing and scholarship offer from Coach Williams is forward Ziaire Williams. Ziaire, who plays his high school basketball at Sherman Oaks Notre Dame in California, is listed as being 6’9” and has been praised for his versatility on the offensive side of the court. With the winter recruiting dead period coming to a close, the UNC football coaching staff has been hitting the recruiting trail hard in order to wrap up their 2019 recruiting class before February’s National Signing Day. Over this weekend, the staff hosted many of their remaining top targets for 2019, while also getting visits from a small group of elite 2020 and 2021 players. College football recruiting is still in the middle of the winter dead period, but that hasn’t stopped Inside Carolina’s Don Callahan from getting the scoop on where the Tar Heels currently stand with many of their top remaining prospects. In the aftermath of this past December’s early signing day period the recruitments of many prospects have changed, with some becoming more favorable for the Heels, others eliminating UNC from consideration, all while head coach Mack Brown continues to add new names to the staff’s recruiting board. Additionally, recently committed quarterback Sam Howell has been at the 2019 All-American Game during this past week, where his play has drawn many positive comments from the national recruiting media. The Tar Heels wrapped up the 2018-2019 season's non-conference schedule on Wednesday night with a solid 77-57 win over the Harvard Crimson. While the game could have been arguably even a bigger blowout for the Heels, a poor shooting night from behind the three-point line kept this game close for much of the first & second halves. However, UNC played good defense throughout the contest and forced Harvard into 22 turnovers, which eventually allowed Carolina to secure the victory. While this past Wednesday's National Signing Day was not the first one Mack Brown has orchestrated as the head coach of the UNC football team, it was undoubtedly one of his most important. This past weekend saw another flurry of recruiting activity, as the Tar Heels hosted a number of players for the basketball game against Gonzaga. On hand were several recruits from the 2019 class, as well as several elite in-state players for the upcoming 2020 recruiting class. By Monday morning, two new players had elected to give verbal commitments to the Heels – 2019 cornerback Obi Egbuna and 2019 defensive lineman Kevin Hester.
