Continuing with our new Wednesday series entitled "Minor Prophets," in today's study we cover the old testament book of Habakkuk Chapters 1 - 3. it is not one of the most popular books in the Bible but it is packed full of good stuff. Habakkuk is a prophet that is content to be judged but is curious. He was also was a man that love and respected God but he had two main questions to God. 1. Why would God allow the prolonging of wickedness in the nation of Juda? 2. How could a loving God allow the Babylonians a more wicked nation to over throw Juda? Mark is writing from the first hand experience and the eye witness of Peter, one of the 12 original disciples. Mark also differs in that he gives snap shots or rather short radio broadcasts of the main idea/meaning of what is going on. Not breaking everything down in detail like Matthew of John, but to get the information out as soon as possible. Now, most everyone who has heard of Jesus has heard the story of Jesus walking on water. In the same manner Mark doesn't give a whole lot of time describing the miraculous event, be that the case there is still plenty of application we can gather from these verses. Nineveh had been given the privilege of knowing the one true God. Under Jonah's preaching this great Gentile City had repented, and God had graciously stayed His judgment. However, a hundred years later, Nahum proclaims the downfall of this same city. The Assyrians have forgotten their revival and have returned to their habits of violence, idolatry, and arrogance. As a result, Babylon will so destroy the city that no trace of it will remain- a prophecy fulfilled in painful detail. For a visual think of a child complaining about the sun being so hot when playing in park, but yet if it was dark that same child would not be able to see or let alone be permitted to go out and play.
