Sens Callups - Ottawa Senators Podcast

We’re back for our second season premiere because we ALL MISS HOCKEY!  We look back at the Alfredsson presser and some (hopefully) final thoughts on him leaving the team.  Pan punches possible holes in the stated $94 million losses since Melnyk’s reign. We review the roster and upcoming potential spot openings and how players will fit in.  There’s a little concern for when Cowen will return and what should be his compensation and term.  Of course, the big talk in the town is who will be the next captain. After reviewing what happened around the league including 2 new ownership groups, we look at the Olympic team and wrap things up from there. We didn’t think much was going to come out of the summer show, but wow, what changes do we ever have.  First, the name of the stadium changes to the “Canadian Tire Center” (air wrench).  Then, a big hole is left in our chest after the Golden Gawd decides to leave the only team he’s ever played for. The owner makes a plea to the public for support around the city after losing our icon, and we say good bye to some excellent young talent in Jakob Silfverberg and Stefan Noesen as well as knowing off the hop that if we jump onto the tank next year, we don’t get the pize of a quality pick.  To bring back some tradition to the show, Shredder from Sens Underground joins us! That said, we have the draft to speak about and have Kathryn Jean (@msconduct on twitter) to break down the Sens draft picks, and call up our good friend, Cathy Cardinal (@CathyCardinal) to give some up front info on Bobby Ryan.  We spin around the league leaving millions of dollars in buyouts.  We’ll see you in season 2!

This all came as a surprise today as our captain, the face of the franchise, and our all time point leader has left to go for a "better" chance for the cup in Detroit.   We pout, cry and get through this special episode and try to make sense of Alfie becoming a RedWing.  We share in our frustrations with your e-mails.  We'll be back shortly with our summer episode and hopefully in better spirits.

Although the season comes to a disappointing end and much sooner than we hoped, we look over the season and some impact players.  We get a submission for a game recap from Todd Van Allen (follow his podcast at CATPPodcast)  - Sens (too little) at Pens (too many) Looking around the league we see who’s still standing and different UFAs both in players and coaches. The Sens find a very formidable opponent in... THE REFS.  Pittsburgh brings it to the Sens in a couple bad games.  By not knowing what would be a good hit and physicality to bring, Ottawa is on the brink of elimination.  - Round 2, Game 2:  Sens 3 at Pens 4  - Round 2, Game 3:  Pens 1 at Sens 2 (2OT)  - Round 2, Game 4:  Pens 7 at Sens 3 We got some fantastic game submissions and recaps from listeners, review some player impressions, see what's happening around the league and review some other award nominees, and read some e-mails.

WOW!  A double overtime win calls for another emergency episode.  Kardinal is gone fishin' so we call up our good old friend Puddle Duck to help us out.  We talk about the atmosphere and excitement of the first win of the series.  We’ll be back soon with our full episode.  Until then, we look forward to hearing from you.

It’s a short week after covering a full series last episode.  We review the one game and feel a little down afterwards, but there are lots of positives to work with for future success.  - Sens 1 @ Pens 4 Luckily we get some news around the league to talk about Mr. Torres being called in with Shanahan yet again, look at the Award Nominees and the other series left in play.  Canuck gets a little excited with the sound board and we look at the week ahead.  Plus, it wouldn’t be proper to not talk about the Leafs absolute collapse in the last minutes of their Game 7.

Wow!  What a series!  That was a shocking level of domination which went much better than expected.  - Sens 4 @ Habs 2  - Sens 1 @ Habs 3  - Habs 1 @ Sens 6  - Habs 2 @ Sens 3  - Sens 6 @ Habs 1 We review the games and look at who really stood out in the series, look at some other match ups around the league while impatiently waiting for the second round. PAGEAUUUU, PAGEAU PAGEAU PAGEAU!!!!

Another exciting win, so another bonus episode!  We talk about the atmosphere in the game and the peskiness of the Sens with a come from behind, three unanswered goal overtime win!  A couple e-mails float in and we call up Marlee from New Brunswick who made the trek down.  #HabBurgler

That was a Pesky game!  We get together for an emergency episode and talk about the 4-2 Game 1 win.  Lots happened in this game, so why not talk about it?

Welcome to the Playoffs!  We get so excited about them that the game recaps leave a lot to be desired.  - Sens 2 @ Caps 1  - Flyers 2 @ Sens 1  - Sens 4 @ Bruins 2 Looking back, this was definitely a season with ups and downs, significant players getting hurt and timely returns to action.  Just to get the blood boiling, we call up a long time forum contributor, TJ Lincoln!  We talk more about the great state of California, and look at the Sharks in a bit of detail while going down the long awaited answer to why the stadium is so friggin’ far away!  We go through the first round match ups and bring back the Sens Underground Playoff Drinking Game! It’s been a miserable week on the ice however things seem to fall in the Sens favour around the league and with the more likely return of Karlsson, things could be on the up and up.  - Caps 1 @ Sens 3  - Leafs 4 @ Sens 1  - Pens 3 @ Sens 1 It’s hard to relive these games, but we struggle through it.  After all, the groundhogs like the game recaps, right?  There’s line-up changes looming and many spare parts hanging around.  We look at some things around the league, look at some teams in the playoffs, announce the winners of the latest contest and get ready for the last week of the regular season where the Sens can hopefully clinch early.

After being away for the full season, he’s back!  Yes that’s right!  After being on the sidelines all year Shredder returns to the Underground Network and joins us for the whole episode.  Oh, and Jared Cowen’s playing now too…  - Sens 3 @ Flyers 1  - Sens 2 @ Devils 0  - Canes 2 @ Sens 3 After a hat trick of wins, this week is much more positive versus last week and the playoff push continues.  We look at how some players are doing, suspensions around the league, the announcement of some outdoor games, and with Shredder back on it just wouldn’t be a show without a goaltender controversy. Well this week was pretty uneventful and disappointing.  With poor results and weak effort, the outlook for the playoffs seemed a little bleaker.  The upside though does include Conacher getting his first goal as a Sen and Alfie breaking a long goalless drought while playing against a familiar friend.  Oh, and Erik Karlsson returning too!  - Sens 2 @ Sabres 4  - Sens 1 @ Pathers 2  - Sens 2 @ Dan O’Rourke 3 We zoom around the league and answer e-mails as always.  We look forward to seeing some of you (who aren't traveling or away) at the Big Rig on Thursday!

As Trade Deadline comes and goes, we trade our tallest player for our now smallest one (and the little guys cheer).  We welcome Cory Connacher to the team!  - Rangers 0 @ Sens 3  - Douches 4 @ Sens 0 – thanks CBInc!  - Sens 2 @ Bruins 3 We look at a bunch of the trades which trickled through after the Bishop trade and speak to a special guest, Peter Joynt, who can be found at www.thejoynt.ca We round out the show with some e-mails and set up the SCU Get Together at Big Rig for April 11th for 7:00PM. There really wasn’t much to talk about this week – until today!  We only have two games to look at, but they were successful:  - Bolts 3 @ Sens 5  - Devils 2 @ Golden Gawds 3 A couple of guys come back from injury and K-Dawg leaves town.  The owner sounds off on Matt Cooke and the injury to Karlsson at a VERY odd time.  Speaking of odd – the supplemental discipline inconsistencies continue to baffle everyone. Around the league, Pittsburgh is grabbing every free agent around the league for cheap and we get a special visit from Southern California by having a long time Groundhog on the show as Cathy Cardinal joins us.  (TJ, don’t be hateful, we’ll have you on, just e-mail us!) We read a couple more e-mails and empty out the inbox and await our trade deadline edition!

In this week’s special episode, we call up 6 guests, some familiar voices and some new ones.  We fly across the country going from East to West and meet up with Frank, Gabrielle, Spezzial Delivery, Ken, Brianne and Dan There was a heck of a week in effort and pretty good success this week  - Sens 4 @ Slugs 3  - Jets 1 @ Sens 4  - Sens 5 @ Isles 3  - Gentlemen of Hockey 2 @ Sens 1 The GMs also do their tour around and proposed changes to rules and regulations, Cory Perry re-signs with the Ducks and we talk about the possible impact on long term contracts.  The Leafs clean house a bit…and the league may do some of that for them too.
