The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) held an annual convention at the end of July, 2011.  They addressed a number of issues that face African-Americans, in particular, the vicious cycle of crime and unemployment that plagues black men and youths.  They cite the loss of manufacturing jobs, shrinking government jobs and the recession as major contributors, but the primary factor cited was the low level of education or rather, the lack thereof.  Is pushing for higher standards in urban schools where the majority of the students are minorities really the key to breaking the vicious cycle of violence and prison?  Will pushing our youth to strive for educational excellence keep them from becoming fodder for the criminal justice system or should we be looking beneath the surface of inferior education?  Join us as we search the scriptures for answers to these questions and more. A Texas Justice of the Peace gave parents the option of paddling their 14 year old daughter or a $500 fine and a misdemeanor record. They chose paddling. Sometime afterwards, they brought suit against the Justice, saying the paddling caused humiliation, fear and mental anguish. Are these parents justified and should corporal punishment be used to discipline children? Although Donald Sterling was an astute business man and former lawyer, he is most imfamously known as the former owner of the NBA's Los Angeles Clippers.  In 2014, a private conversation between he and his "mistress" was recorded without his knowledge and made public.
