Leaders are trained to feel as though we always have to come up with the answer. The thing is that we don’t. We just have to ask the right questions. Good leadership is about a commitment, not only from an individual but from a company. In order for it to be successful, it has to be a culture of the company. Take it upon yourself to affect change with the people that you can affect most. From there, you plant the seed to create awareness that this is a better way to manage and to interact with employees. Therefore, it will catch on and eventually become a company-wide culture.

When you get into a leadership role, and you work for a small company or a large corporation, politics are a given. To not think that they are there or that you don’t have to manage within them is naïve. Sometimes when you try to stay under the radar enough, you don’t give your team the benefit to grow. You have to embrace them and know that they are there. You have to know that they are not all bad. You have to figure out if there is a way to manage that either by staying under the radar, procrastinating to the point where you don’t have to get intimately involved in those politics or whether it is appropriate to jump right in.
