  • Reflections with Andy - What Exactly is Wisdom? - Proverbs 8

    08/01/2024 Duración: 10min

In Proverbs 8 today, we hear wisdom speak. This is an interesting passage because it comes from the perspective of wisdom. Wisdom tells us today about how to gain it, where it came from, and what a gift it is. Wisdom is seeing things through the light of eternity. We need to learn to humble ourselves, not react, but to see things through God’s lens. We are driven by this cultural moment to react to everything. Wisdom tells us not to do that. Humble yourself, and see things through the light of eternity. That is wisdom.  Join us for our daily reflections with Andy. In 10 short minutes, he'll dig a little deeper into Scripture and help you better understand God's Word.If you'd like to receive this daily reflection on your phone, text @39110 to 81010 to sign up. • Sunday Sermon - The Long and Winding Road

    08/01/2024 Duración: 19min

In our Traditional sermon from January 7, 2024, Andy shares with us about the Wise Men from Matthew 2: 1-12. We see the journey they took; how it was often hard. Following after Jesus is not always easy. But when He is the north star that we follow, we find the life we seek.

  • Reflections with Andy - Temptation and Work - Proverbs 5-7

    05/01/2024 Duración: 10min

Going into the weekend, we are going to look at Proverbs 5-7.  Chapters 5 and 7 can be looked at together, giving us practical advice on resisting temptation.  Temptation is always, always, always a lie, and we need the voices of our mentors and guides to speak truth into our lives in times of temptation. Then, Chapter 6 gives us a good word on work. We are all called to work. It is good for our souls!  Join us for our daily reflections with Andy. In 10 short minutes, he'll dig a little deeper into Scripture and help you better understand God's Word.If you'd like to receive this daily reflection on your phone, text @39110 to 81010 to sign up. • Reflections with Andy - The Purpose of it All - Proverbs 4

    04/01/2024 Duración: 10min

Proverbs tells us to keep our eyes focused on wisdom, to keep our eyes focused on what is ahead.  Yesterday, in Proverbs 3, we learned to trust in God, and He will make our paths straight.  Today, we are reminded to keep our eyes focused on Him and not allow the distractions to pull our focus.  But here’s the thing.  For most of us, our distractions may not be terrible temptations but the stuff of life.  We are reminded that our Father knows we have need of these things.  When we focus first on Him and His kingdom, we find these things are there, for our Father cares for us.  Let’s focus on the purpose of our life, not the stuff of our life.  And then we will actually find our life.  Join us for our daily reflections with Andy. In 10 short minutes, he'll dig a little deeper into Scripture and help you better understand God's Word.If you'd like to receive this daily reflection on your phone, text @39110 to 81010 to sign up. • Reflections with Andy - Lean Not on Your Own Understanding - Proverbs 3

    03/01/2024 Duración: 10min

Today, we read what may be the most well-known passage in Proverbs, chapter 3:5-6.  Don’t trust in your own understanding.  Lean on God. Trust in Him. Acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.  Think of all the time that we spend fretting and fussing, trying to figure it all out. We are told today that if we trust in our own understanding, we will find ourselves in a mess. But when we trust in God, He leads us, He straightens our paths, and we find rest. It’s not about us figuring it all out. It’s about us submitting to Him. And when we do that, we find the life we have been looking for. Join us for our daily reflections with Andy. In 10 short minutes, he'll dig a little deeper into Scripture and help you better understand God's Word.If you'd like to receive this daily reflection on your phone, text @39110 to 81010 to sign up. • Reflections with Andy - Wisdom is a Gift - Proverbs 2

    02/01/2024 Duración: 10min

Today, we see that wisdom flows from God. It is a gift from God; it is a gift from the Holy Spirit. In James, we are told that if we lack wisdom, we should ask. And God will give to all who ask. It does not come from knowledge or from living; it comes from God. Today, see wisdom. Ask for wisdom.  Ask boldly, and God will give. God will give us the grace to live out a worldview that comes from His understanding. It is His gift to us, His perspective.  That is wisdom. But we also see today that wisdom isn’t simply a head thing or a heart thing, but it is a life thing. When we have wisdom, we will make the right choice.  And that the right choice will lead to more wisdom. The choices lead to wisdom, and wisdom leads to choices. Today, let’s choose the wise past. And that choice will lead us to great wisdom, given to us by the Spirit. Join us for our daily reflections with Andy. In 10 short minutes, he'll dig a little deeper into Scripture and help you better understand God's Word.If you'd like to

  • Reflections with Andy - The Fear of the Lord - Proverbs 1

    01/01/2024 Duración: 10min

In this new year, we will look daily at a chapter in Proverbs. There is much we can gain from this great book of wisdom. Today, we see that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of all knowledge or wisdom. We talk today about what it means to fear the Lord. It is not what we may think that it is. We see when we understand what this means how very important this is.  This truth really is the beginning of all knowledge and wisdom. When we approach life with that proper fear or reverence, we see how big God is and how small we are. And yet, how loved we are. Then we can learn. Then, we can acquire wisdom. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of all wisdom.  Join us for our daily reflections with Andy. In 10 short minutes, he'll dig a little deeper into Scripture and help you better understand God's Word.If you'd like to receive this daily reflection on your phone, text @39110 to 81010 to sign up. • Reflections with Andy - The Old, Old Story - Luke 2: 1-20

    25/12/2023 Duración: 10min

Today’s passage is one that we have heard read a million times. We know it. We’ve heard it.  We’ve experienced it.  This story reminds us of our parents and grandparents, it reminds us of our home, of Christmases of old. Remember those times. Remember those stories. Remember God’s goodness in the original story, but also in the retelling, over and over again, of this story. And today, take time to make new memories. This passage has the flesh of memories. Today, take time to make new memories for the days that are to come. Remember, and make new ones.  Join us for our daily reflections with Andy. • Reflections with Andy - The Plan All Along - Matthew 1: 18-25

    22/12/2023 Duración: 10min

We look at Matthew’s telling of the Christmas story.  We see how, from the very beginning, Matthew is tying everything into the Old Testament.  Jesus is not a new thing, but He is the very fulfillment of what God was doing from the start.  He was the plan all along. He wasn’t God’s last option. He was what God was doing before the foundation of the world. We read all the Bible looking for Jesus. He is the fulfillment of the promise that God made in the Garden, to Abraham, to Moses, to David, and to all of Israel. Jesus Christ is the very fulfillment of what God said He was going to do.  He was God’s plan all along.  Join us for our daily reflections with Andy. • Reflections with Andy - Far as the Curse is Found - John 1: 1-18

    21/12/2023 Duración: 10min

Over the next three days, we will look at the Christmas story as found in the Gospels. Today, we look at John’s.  This is my personal favorite.  Now, when we read John’s Gospel, we don’t see the normal things we are used to seeing in a Christmas story. We don’t see sheep or Wise Men or Mary, or anything. We see a Christmas story that is cosmic, the very God of creation coming to undo the cosmic effects of the Fall. As we sing in this season, “he comes to make His blessings known, far as the curse is found.”  John shows us what that means.  Join us for our daily reflections with Andy. In 10 short minutes, he'll dig a little deeper into Scripture and help you better understand God's Word.If you'd like to receive this daily reflection on your phone, text @39110 to 81010 to sign up. • Reflections with Andy - Stoke the Fire - Luke 24: 28-32

    20/12/2023 Duración: 10min

Throughout the season of Advent, we’ll have a weekday reflection based on suggested scriptures from a great resource entitled The Common Rule. You can find a calendar of the daily readings here - https://www.thecommonrule.org/advent-readingsToday, We read how their hearts burned when Jesus opened the scriptures to them. Fire is a common thing in scripture; sometimes, it is seen as bad (James and the tongue), but it is often seen as a purification tool.  We need to stoke the fire of God’s love and God’s spirit in our lives. Stoke it daily. Feed it. Our faith should be the fire that consumes all things in our lives. It should be the foundation of all things upon which all our life is based.  We cannot seek to contain the fire of faith in our lives; we must let it burn. Join us for our daily reflections with Andy. • Reflections with Andy - Looking for Hope- Psalm 130

Throughout the season of Advent, we’ll have a weekday reflection based on suggested scriptures from a great resource entitled The Common Rule. You can find a calendar of the daily readings here - https://www.thecommonrule.org/advent-readingsPsalm 130 is a psalm of ascent. It is a psalm that is given to be sung as worshipers walk up to Mt. Zion, to the temple. Yet, it starts off not with a note of joy but of sadness. Out of the depths, we cry to God.  We hope in God. I think this psalm tells us that it is not until we realize that life is imperfect, that we are imperfect that we have reason to hope.  This world can fool us into falling into the trap of false perfection, yet everyone is hurting and imperfect. When we cry from depths, when realize the imperfection around us and in us, it is then that we can begin to have hope.  Join us for our daily reflections with Andy. • Blue Christmas - Sing Your Lament

    18/12/2023 Duración: 20min

In our Blue Christmas Service, Andy shares from Psalm 130 and Lamentations 3: 22-26.  Lament is a Christian virtue. We wait upon the Lord. We hope in the Lord. But there are times when all we can do is lament our pain, our loss, our hurt. And know that our Lord is with us, in the midst of all of our hurt.

  • Reflections with Andy - Restored - Isaiah 11:1-10

    15/12/2023 Duración: 10min

Throughout the season of Advent, we’ll have a weekday reflection based on suggested scriptures from a great resource entitled The Common Rule. You can find a calendar of the daily readings here - https://www.thecommonrule.org/advent-readingsWe see a beautiful picture today of what things will be like one day.  All things will be restored. Because of the sin of our first parents, Adam and Eve, all things are disordered. All things are corrupted. That is not God’s perfect will or desire. But one day, in God’s time, He will make all things right. The lion will lay with the lamb. The child will play with the snake. All will be restored, and the effect of sin will be no more. One day.  So, we wait with hope in what God will do. And we live, faithful, that vision of His will done on earth, as it is in heaven.  Join us for our daily reflections with Andy. Throughout the season of Advent, we’ll have a weekday reflection based on suggested scriptures from a great resource entitled The Common Rule. You can find a calendar of the daily readings here - https://www.thecommonrule.org/advent-readingsToday, we are told to wait on the Lord.  We have confidence, not in ourselves, but we have confidence in the Lord. We wait upon Him, and we know that we will see His goodness here in the land of the living.  Now, there are times when we will be tired of waiting. We can want to give up, give up hope. In those moments, recount to yourself when you have seen His goodness. When He has not failed you. When He has been faithful.  When we remember when He was faithful in the past, we can wait, with hope, towards what He will do and is doing! Join us for our daily reflections with Andy. 13/12/2023 Duración: 10min

Throughout the season of Advent, we’ll have a weekday reflection based on suggested scriptures from a great resource entitled The Common Rule. You can find a calendar of the daily readings here - https://www.thecommonrule.org/advent-readingsCS Lewis once said, “All that we call human history--money, poverty, ambition, war, prostitution, classes, empires, slavery--[is] the long terrible story of man trying to find something other than God which will make him happy.”  Today in the prophet, we read that God will renew us, or as I’ve read it in the ESV, He will quiet us in His love. We are looking for peace, we are looking for comfort, we are looking for joy, and hope.  We will never find it in this world, we will only find it in Jesus.  Today, rest in Him.  Find His love.  Join us for our daily reflections with Andy. God has been at work, in all this, to bring the Good News to all the world. The Gospel is good news to all who hear it.  God has always been at work, to bring the Good News of Jesus to all.  We have faith in that, and because of that, we have peace, no matter what.  We trust in Him.
