  • 264. Stop Limiting Yourself with Mackey

    19/06/2020 Duración: 08min

Your health limits how far you can go in life. When you're in poor health, it limits what you can do and the impact that you can have on others. That's not to say that illness or obesity will always prevent people from reaching their dreams or influencing their community. But it is true that the healthier you are, the further and faster you can go. Health isn't about just one thing, but to get healthy you do need to take one step in the right direction every day. In this episode, Mackey dives in on the importance of doing the work to get healthy. Key Takeaways: -The healthier you are, the further and faster you can go. -The healthier you are, the longer and better you can serve. -Take one step in the right direction every day.   To learn more about the 2words Character Development Curriculum, please email Colton at colton@2words.tv or visit our website at www.2words.tv/gameplan3.

  • 263. Anger Rights with Mackey

    17/06/2020 Duración: 05min

Anger is a powerful emotion. It can destroy so quickly and so completely. And sometimes, what it destroys cannot be rebuilt. Anger can destroy relationships and entire lives. But the thing is, anger is also useful if it's used in the right way. When the destructive nature of anger is kept in check, it can be used for positive change. Angry indignation at the suffering or unfair treatment of others can help us create a new, more equal world. But we have to remember our Anger Rights, or that force for good will become the force of our destruction. In this episode, Mackey breaks down the three Anger Rights and encourages us to remember that when we use our anger to lift other people up, to fight for equality, then we can bring about positive change. Key Takeaways: -You have the right to be angry, but your anger does not have the right to have you. -You have the right to get angry, but its not right to get there too quick. -You have the right to be angry, but you don’t have the right to be disrespectful.   To lea

  • 262. Know Your Role | Dusty Crafton | Boyd HS

    15/06/2020 Duración: 19min

The team belongs to the athletes as much as it does to the coaches, and the team is bigger than athletes or coaches. Everyone is working together in service of the team. And if there are people who aren't working in service to the team, people who aren't fulfilling their roles, then the team breaks down. But if everyone has a We over Me mentality, there's nothing the team cannot accomplish. In this episode, Coach Dusty Crafton tells us several ways to bring the team together for the greater We. Key Takeaways: -Give your athletes ownership on the team. -Establish a We over Me mentality. -Dealing with a little pain and adversity is good for you.   To learn more about the 2Words Character Development Curriculum, please email Colton at colton@2words.tv or visit our website at www.2words.tv/gameplan3

  • 261. Finish Strong with Mackey

    12/06/2020 Duración: 07min

The only way to finish strong is to give your best to the cause or goal straight through (not to) the finish line. There will be real consequences for our world if this generation of coaches fails to finish strong. You are that generation, and you have a great responsibility to your athletes, your family, and future generations to prepare the leaders in your locker rooms for the world they will face tomorrow. Part of that preparation involves teaching tomorrow's leaders how to finish strong. In this episode, Mackey dives deep on what it means to finish strong and how to do it. Key Takeaways: -Change the mindset from a "have to" to a "get to" mentality. -If you're going to finish strong, you cannot do it alone. -Continue giving your best, even when it costs more than you thought it would.   The Mackey Leadership Camp will be held online, July 6-10, 2020. • 260. Why Character Matters with Mackey

    10/06/2020 Duración: 07min

Having a 5-star talent is not as important as having a 5-star character. Talent cannot take you very far without a solid foundation of good character. Talent can also only take you as far as your character will allow. So in that sense, character is both a foundation and ceiling. This is just one of the things that makes character so important in our lives. In this episode, Mackey breaks down why character matters. Key Takeaways: -Character is a talent amplifier. -Character is both a ceiling and a foundation. -Character will limit how far your talent can take you.   To learn more about the 2Words Character Development Curriculum, please email Colton at Colton@2words.tv or visit our website at www.2words.tv/gameplan3   The Mackey Leadership Camp will be held online, July 6-10, 2020. • 259. The Culture Mindset | Billy Mathis | Weatherford HS

    08/06/2020 Duración: 20min

Culture is a mindset. When your mindset is that your team's culture matters and the values you talk about settle into your daily mindset as guiding principles, that mindset, that culture, becomes evident to your athletes so that they can share in it. When athletes see that the athletic program is important to their coaches, the program will become important to them, too. In this episode, Coach Billy Mathis discusses the importance of culture in building a successful athletic program. Key Takeaways: -Culture is a mindset. -Athletes can hold each other accountable. -Kids will run through a brick wall for you if they know that you love them.   To learn more about the 2Words Character Development Curriculum and our e-learning resources, please email Colton at colton@2words.tv or visit our website, www.2words.tv/gameplan3   Connect with Coach Mathis: bmathis@weatherfordisd.com @coachn_4christ

  • 258. Daily Actions to Fight Racism with Mackey

    05/06/2020 Duración: 25min

Systemic racism is a topic too big for any one person to tackle. That's why a movement grew on social networking sites and turned into protests in the streets. The movement is people, black and white and everything in between, coming together to say "This is wrong and I will not remain silent." In this episode, Mackey addresses current events related to systemic racism and his perspective on why we have to keep fighting until it's gone.  Key Takeaways: -We have to call right right and wrong wrong. We cannot allow wrong to be normal. -Saying “I don’t see color” is not helpful in fighting racism, it just normalizes everyone else’s experience to your own. -What starts on Twitter can't stay on Twitter.   To learn more about the 2words Character Development and our e-learning resources, please email Colton at colton@2words.tv or visit our website at www.2words.tv/gameplan3   Schedule a time for Mackey to virtually encourage your athletes by emailing Alyssa at alyssa@2words.tv

  • 257. Hard Work and Overalls with Mackey

    03/06/2020 Duración: 05min

Thomas Edison is credited with saying some version of the quote: "Opportunity is missed my most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like hard work." In this episode, Mackey encourages us to look past the overalls to the opportunity underneath. Yes, there will be hard work involved. But if we do today's work today, we will reap the benefits of growth tomorrow. Key Takeaways: -If we want to get where we want to go, we have to do what we don't want to do. -Do not miss the opportunity of growth because you aren't willing to put in the work. -Do today's work today.   To learn more about the 2Words Character Development Curriculum and our e-learning resources, please email Colton at colton@2words.tv or visit our website at www.2words.tv/gameplan3   Schedule a time for Mackey to virtually encourage your athletes by emailing Alyssa at alyssa@2words.tv

  • 256. #OneFamily | Chris Fisher | Palo Duro HS (Amarillo ISD)

    01/06/2020 Duración: 22min

Our athletic programs aren't just here to let kids run around with a ball. The program exists to make our student-athletes better, to help them become the men and women who will lead our society in the future. That's why we can't just talk about our values and personal codes, we have to actually live it out so our athletes can see it clearly. In this episode, Coach Chris Fisher breaks down the phrase OneFamily, which he uses to guide his athletic program and his life. It's a partial acronym that stands for: Faith, Attitude, Mental Toughness, Integrity, Love, and You.  Key Takeaways: -You can't just talk about OneFamily, you have to live it. -Let your yes be yes and your no be no. -It's a calling to be an educator and a coach.   To learn more about the 2Words Character Development Curriculum and e-learning resources, please email Colton at colton@2words.tv or visit www.2words.tv/gameplan3 Schedule a time for Mackey to virtually encourage your athletes by emailing Alyssa at alyssa@2words.tv.

  • 255. Most Valuable Lesson Of Athletics

    29/05/2020 Duración: 06min

We tend to think that if we practice long enough, hard enough, the thing we're doing will be easy. But the truth is, things don't get easier, we just get stronger. And the only way to get stronger is to fail. That's right. It is not our successes that help us improve so that the hard things seem easy, it is our failures that propel us to that place. In this episode, Mackey breaks down why the most important lesson we learn from athletics is how to fail. Key Takeaways: -Athletics teach us how to fail. -Things will go wrong in the game of life. -Things don't get easier, we just get stronger.   Schedule a time to for Mackey to virtually encourage your athletes by emailing Alyssa at alyssa@2words.tv To learn more about the 2Words Character Development Curriculum and our e-learning resources, please email Colton at colton@2words.tv or visit www.2words.tv/gameplan3

  • 254. The Hidden Invitation with Mackey

    27/05/2020 Duración: 05min

Often we view complaints as negatives. After all, complaints tell us what is wrong with the world, and who wants to be reminded of that? But this thinking is backwards. Complaints don't just tell us what's wrong. Complaints offer an invitation to make wrong things right. In this episode, Mackey reminds us that life is based on how we see things and that we can choose to see complaints as invitations for change.  Key Takeaways: -Complaining is an invitation to get involved in something that is not right. -Life is full of invitations and complaints. -Whether you see invitations or complaints depends on your choice.   To learn more about our 2Words Character Development Curriculum and our e-learning resources, please email Colton at colton@2words.tv or visit www.2words.tv/gameplan3   Schedule a time for Mackey to virtually encourage your athletes by emailing Alyssa at alyssa@2words.tv

  • 253. Focus on the Little Things | Claude Mathis | De Soto HS

    25/05/2020 Duración: 15min

Discipline and accountability go hand in hand. We must hold our athletes accountable for their actions both when they are with us and when they are away. Our athletes represent our athletic program, which is essentially our brand. They are representing us when they are in other teachers' classes and when they are out with their friends. We hold them accountable for their behavior regardless of where they are because that is how we will instill discipline in them. In this episode, Coach Claude Mathis breaks down why discipline and accountability should be high priorities for any coach.  Key Takeaways: -Your athletes represent your athletic program. -All coaches should be held accountable. -Do not let the little things pass. 22/05/2020 Duración: 07min

  • 248. You Can with Mackey

    13/05/2020 Duración: 05min

"Do what you can with all that you have wherever you are." Teddy Roosevelt Thinking about what you can't do or don't have is easy, but useless. Thinking about all the good you could do if you were in a different location is also useless. Remember: Leaders always lead, regardless of circumstances or resources.
