Today we hang out with Coach Ojeda who is the brand new Athletic Coordinator and Head Football Coach at Aldine High School. Coach tells us about his journey to Aldine, what the transition has been like, and what he has been focused on in these first few weeks on the job. Coach highlights the importance of spending time to save time and he has implemented this idea both with his kids as well as personally in this transition. He also shares a couple of lessons his mentors taught him that greatly influence how he coaches today. Today we have Coach Jamie Boswell on the podcast. Coach comes at us with a deep wealth of knowledge after over 30 years coaching. He is 3 weeks into his new role at Andrews High school as the Athletic Director. Coach explains the value of mentors on our lives and careers. This weeks Episode we have coach Jerry Prieto, Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Crosby ISD. Coach walks us through some of his foundational program principals and how he installs these every offseason with a one to two week character intensive with his athletes. Coach is constantly calling his players to focus on their purpose,  education, and keeping their priorities in order. Coach David Munoz is a new Head Football Coach and Athletic Coordinator at Irving High School. He is going on his 16th year of coaching. Coach Munoz saw first hand the power of building relationships and investing in kids when he and his mentor Coach Jason Tucker rebuilt a struggling program and made a deep play off run several years later. He said they didn't change the playbook, they changed the way they invested into their players. Coach Armando Jacinto was told "No" 25 times before he was finally told "Yes". In this episode with the President of the Hispanic Texas High School Coaches Association and AD of Spring ISD, we talk with Coach Jacinto about his long road to success. From being guided into the coaching profession as a player, to struggling to land a job due to his ethnicity, to being inspired by a former player of his own to set his sights even higher, Coach Jacinto knows the importance of seeing what CAN BE, rather than only what is. "Deep down, our players want discipline. They want accountability." Chris Dudley, AC at Cinco Ranch HS, builds TRUST in his program with clear and consistent communication; "Aggressively over communicating" is how he puts it. With that trust in place, he is then able to hold his athletes to clear standards that set them up to succeed on the field and off as they learn to sign their name to something worthwhile and live up to the standards they've agreed upon.  Key Takeaways: "To succeed in life you need some measure of organization." "We don't get this day back, and neither do our kids." When our kids are with us, we want that to be the best part of their day. "Discipline is the bridge between peaks of motivation." Whether it's tucked in shirts or being on-time, DISCIPLINE is the vehicle that carries us when our motivation has dried up. "It sounds cliche but, for us, the biggest thing is academics." "When I was growing up, we just did whatever coach told us to do. Today, that's not enough. You've got to model it." Relationships are built on trust. If our athletes don't trust us, then we won't be able to build strong relationships with them. Without strong relationships, we can't help them become the best young men and women they can be. We can't just tell our athletes that they can trust us because trust is built slowly over time by both our words and our actions.
