Kevin starts the episode by discussing the recent report that MLB used two different styles of baseball this past season. The pandemic led to shortages with the "new" baseball, which then made MLB use "juiced" balls from previous inventory. The problem with this is that no one knew this was happening or which balls were used in which games. The integrity of the sport is certainly even more in question. Kevin then gives an update on the managerial searches for both the A's and Met's. There are some candidates who are interviewing for both opportunities but it looks like Buck Showalter is the lead candidate for the Mets and the A's are looking to stay internally. Kevin also talks about the MiLB rule 5 draft that took place. The Collective Bargaining Agreement expired on December 1st, 2021 at 11:59 pm EST. Major League Baseball then proceeded to lock the players out at 12:01 AM December 2. Patrick opens today's episode by explaining what the CBA expiring means right now, and what it means for the future. Patrick reads the commissioner's letter and then goes into what both of the sides are fighting over. Once Patrick explains to everyone what the lockout means, and most importantly why, as fans, there is no need to worry. From there Patrick lets everyone get lost for a few minutes by covering every move that was made on the last day of the CBA. Kevin spends this episode discussing all of the free-agent signings that have taken place over the past 72 hours. It was an electric couple of days for MLB and free agents. Many top free agents will now have new homes in 2022. Max Scherzer signs with the Mets, Javier Baez to the Tigers, Corey Seager and Marcus Siemian to the Rangers, and many more. Kevin gives his thoughts on all of the signings and how this affects each team for 2022. All of these "contracts" will not be finalized until a new CBA is agreed upon due to the pending physicals that need to take place and the lockout that went live this morning. THE CBA EXPIRES TODAY! Don't worry just yet and Patrick explains why the CBA expires on 11:59 EST, December 1, 2021, and why it is not a major deal if the MLBPA and MLB cannot come to terms before the deadline. But, before Patrick can get to that Patrick updates everyone on who all has signed. Due to the CBA set to expire free agents have been drooping like fly's this past week. The Texas Rangers alone have put over half a BILLION dollars into their new middle infield of Marcus Semian and Correy Seager. Javvy Baez is with the Detroit Tigers, Max Scherzer has signed with the Mets. Patrick breaks down all of those deals and takes a look at the best remaining free agent players left. With guys like Trevor Story, Carlos Correa, Freddie Freeman, and so many other talented players still available it is likely that the record of 2.1 billion in FA money given out will be surpassed. The New York Mets made waves by signing Starling Marte, Mark Canha, and Eduardo Escobar. The Astros added reliever Hector Neris and The Rays added Corey Kluber. Ohtani becomes only the 19th player in history to be a unanimous selection and the second born Japanese player to win the award. Bryce becomes only the 4th player in history to win the MVP for two different franchises. Kevin then talks about the Arizona Fall League. He discusses the award winners as well as the "All-League Team". The AFL consists of some of the top prospects in all of baseball. Multiple prospects have put themselves on the map for next season and potentially played their way into their teams' plans. Kevin starts the show by discussing the Rookie of the Year, Manager of the Year, and Cy Young Awards. India and Arozarena win the Rookie of the Year awards and neither race was very close. Kapler and Cash win Manager of the Year in each league. Cash becomes only the second manager ever to win the award in back to back seasons. Ray and Burnes with the Cy Young, Burnes was a very close race in the National League with him and Wheeler both receiving 12 first-place votes. The MVP winners will be announced tonight, and with Mike Schmidt presenting the NL award it certainly seems that Bryce Harper will be taking home the hardware. Kevin then talks about the recent signings across baseball. Noah Syndergaard has signed with the LA Angels in a risky move. Eduardo Rodriguez signs a massive deal with the Tigers, in the first move of many potentially for Detroit. In today's show, Patrick goes over the best hitter of the 2000s, Manny Ramirez. Ramierez has had a very controversial career during his time in the big leagues. He hit moonshot on top of moonshot all while also hitting for an average and not being afraid to take a walk. One of the greatest natural hitters of all time led Boston to break the curse of the Bambino in '04. Also, he made sure that the curse was dead a few years later when the Red Sox won their second with Manny Ramirez on the squad. Jorge Soler was named WS MVP, becoming only the second Cuban born player to win the award. The Braves had a tremendous run defeating the 95 win Brewers, 106 win Dodgers, and 95 win Astros. Kevin then talks about the offseason ahead for both the Braves and Astros. Each team has multiple big-time free agents ahead, but the two biggest storylines to play out will be the futures of Freddie Freeman and Carlos Correa.
