Everyone has ideas about peace - where it comes from, how to achieve it, etc. But, all attempts at peace are impossible if not for the peace of God which is available only in Jesus Christ. Jesus offers us a peace that is not of this world. His peace goes beyond human understanding. It doesn't come from within us. It is out of this world.

During this first Sunday in Advent, we are reminded that in Jesus there is Hope for the Hopeless.

In this final sermon for this series, and as the last Sunday in the church year, we take a look at our final hope: the return of Christ on the Last Day. But, prior to that Last Day, we have many questions about what happens to Christian people when they die. We want to know that our loved ones are okay, that they are happy, that they are enjoying themselves with Jesus. And, so we often wonder. This sermon opens up the Bible to how it talks about death and the hope that we have in Jesus Christ.

We have strong images in our minds of how we view Heaven and Hell. We've been influenced not only by the Bible, but perhaps even more strongly by popular culture, historic imagery, and the pictures, movies, and books we've seen and read. So, is what we imagine accurate according to the Scriptures and Jesus' teaching? This sermon opens up that question with the Biblical reality that Heaven and Hell are both real, eternal, places.

Many Christian people wonder, "Is Jesus really the only way?" The only way to what? The only way to receive the forgiveness of sins and eternal life. The Bible can answer this question in one word, "Yes." Yes, Jesus is the only way to receive forgiveness of sins and eternal life. But - when we start thinking this through and putting it into practice, we run into a number of dilemmas that can be hard to understand. This sermon opens up a number of those hard questions and finds a foundational resolution in the Word of God.

Many people lack confidence in their salvation. They might believe that they're saved by Jesus Christ alone, but then they still wonder, "What if I'm not?" For that very reason, we looked at this question in the 5th week of our Hard Questions sermon series. By the end, you will have confidence in your salvation if you desire to be saved by Jesus alone.

As we live in this world, we naturally face situations where we have opportunity to speak about the truth of Jesus Christ. It might be that someone is behaving in a way that is contradictory with the Bible, and we feel we should address the sin. It might be that someone is a time of deep need and the best hope we can offer is Jesus. God gives us plenty of opportunities to speak, but often we don't know how. Or, we don't do it well. Or, we don't do it at all. This sermon will remind us about the reasons why we should care about Evangelism (that is, telling the good news of Jesus) and how we can genuinely and authentically have real-life conversations with those who need to hear about the truth of Jesus.

If we're honestly reading God's Word and reflecting on our own lives, we will quickly see that we are sinners. But, what is sin? Sin is, "The failure or refusal of human beings to live the life intended for them by God their creator." Working off of that definition, this sermon takes us to the Garden of Eden, through the 10 Commandments, and to the fulfillment of Jesus' perfect life, death, and resurrection.

Prayer is a gift from God for us to talk to him whenever we want. But, there are so many things we wonder about our prayers. What about when it seems like God doesn't answer our prayers? What about when he answers the prayers of other people and not us? Does God answer the prayers of people who are "good" or does he answer prayers of anyone? These and many other questions regarding prayer are covered in this sermon.

In this first sermon in our "Hard Questions for Jesus" we ask the age old question, "What to do about evil?" In today's sermon, we address the topic from a very high level knowing that many of the questions that we have originate from this general problem. We learn how to faithfully think through and deal with all the suffering, brokenness, and evil that we face in life.

The good news of Jesus Christ cannot just stay with us. By the very fact that we are Christian people, we have been commanded and sent to bring the good news of Jesus in the world, for the world, with the world. Or, as we say it at Saints Peter and Paul, "IN the Community, FOR the Community, WITH the Community." In John 17, we read the prayer of Jesus for his disciples as he prepares to be arrested and crucified.

It is vitally important for Christian people to be in relationships with other people. We were not created to live life alone. We are dependent on one another and, at the end of the day, we are better together. Jesus gives us an image of what a collection of his disciples look like in John 15 in the image of a vineyard. Pastor Aaron preached on this image and explained the importance of groups in the life of Christian disciples.

We are Alive in Christ IN Worship because God is FOR us and God is WITH us. Have you ever wondered why the Church gathers together week after week for worship services where they sing, pray, listen to a sermon, etc? This sermon reminds us of why it is we worship and what exactly happens during that time together.

This is the final sermon in our summer series through the Book of Genesis. In this final section, we see the transition to the Next Generation. Abraham and Sarah will pass away and their son Isaac will be married to his wife Rebekah. The sermon applies this message by focusing on the importance for parents to invest in the intentional raising up of the next generation of Jesus followers.
