North Shore Nine

In a very forgettable game the Pirates lose to the Brewers 19-2. It was #RoansyDay, but after showing some struggles his past few outings, it appears luck caught up with him and the Brewers put up 7 earned in 1.2 innings pitched. DiNardo talks about his struggles today which lead to three HR's.It certainly wasn't pretty for anybody else either. As a team the pitchers only struck out two Brewers and the bullpen added on 10 more earned runs. Offensively, well, Corbin Burnes had a no hitter through 5 and the second only run for the Pirates had to come after a review in the 8th being down 16 runs.

What a couple of interesting games the Pirates have played the past few days. Not only with all the weird calls and mishaps, but two 8-7 victories in way of a player hitting 3 HR's. Today's MVP was Michael Perez who went 4-4 with 3 HR's and 5 RBI's. Along with Perez, the young bucs have been earning their keep and helping out offensively as well. Oneil Cruz and Jack Suwinski had back to back HR's today while making this upcoming roster decision to be pretty compelling as guys come back from the IL.This game was also interesting due to the 8-4 lead in the 9th and David Bednar looking like he is clearly not 100% as he gave up 3-runs. Was it too early for him in a game with a 4-run lead to pitch? Ether way, Yerry De Los Santos shuts it down and earns his 2nd career save in the victory.

Bryan Reynolds carried the team on his back today going 3-4 with 3 HR's and 6 RBI's, but without the help of a strange rule gifting the Pirates a run they may not have secured the victory.We discuss the first really bad outing by Mitch Keller since throwing the 2-seamer, but also how the bullpen does keep the lead and provide their first win on this roadtrip while having to pitch 5 innings. Yerry De Los Santos also gets his very first save as he was put in another big situation this year.

Tonight's game was pretty brutal to sit through. Patrick Corbin looked like the Cy Young candidate in 2018 opposed to the pitcher who came into tonight's game with a 6.60 ERA. With 12 K's and just 1 earned run, he shut down this entire offense outside of Diego Castillo's HR.The bullpen has been very frustrating to watch as a unit lately as well. Though, you can pass blame onto Derek Shelton and how he has been using many guys in multiple innings, but the fact is that there is not enough guys you can rely on either. Is it time to just start throwing in the lesser experienced pitchers and give them some of these big opportunities?

With it being a spot start by Miguel Yajure, he provided the results you want even if he didn't pitch all that well. However, the play of Oneil Cruz and Hoy Park on both sides gave this team the support it needed for an early lead. Cruz homered for the first time in 2022 and Park went 2-for-4 while provided solid defense as well.The game came crashing down when Stratton was sent out for a second inning and fell apart. Two doubles and a HR in the 8th provided the two runs the Nationals needed to win the game. We discuss why Shelton decided to send out Stratton or a second inning.

Mitch Keller continues his 2-seam tour in Tropicana Field today and the results were pretty okay. Though he gave up 3 in the 2nd, he held it together and now has a 2.98 ERA since incorporating the 2-seamer. We talk similarities in today's start from another which leaves us very encouraged.The strikeouts continue to be a huge problem for this team as they finished with 17. Thankfully, the long ball played as Michael Chavis, Hoy Park, and Diego Castillo each hit them. Chavis just keeps continuing to impress vs. lefties while showing he is more than capable of a defender. Oh, speaking of defense, Oneil Cruz put together another solid defensive performance.

It was a revenge game for Jose Quintana as he faced his former team and he didn't disappoint. It was, however, a disappointing outing for Will Crowe. Tonight, we discuss these performances as well as the bullpen usage. Should Wil Crowe have stayed in for as long as he did and was the correct move going to David Bednar over Yerri De Los Santos?The offense stayed alive today as well. Oneil Cruz continued his streak of RBI's. Ke'Bryan Hayes hit a laser over the left field notch while also scoring the winning run in today's contest (and yes, it appears he is ok). However, it was Michael Chavis who had a big day. Today's three HR game lifted Suwinski's wRC+ 24 points on the year ending his 9-game slump. As one co-host may have questioned his power potential, it looks pretty clear that the power is legit regardless of the role he will carve as a player. Let's also focus on today's pitching as Mitch Keller continued his good stretch while overcoming adversity early in today's game. What was the biggest takeaway from Keller start? Let's just say the bad 1st inning played a big part in the excitement.The day everybody has been waiting for is now upon us. Tomorrow will be the day that Oneil Cruz makes his return to the majors and get his call in 2022. Along with Cruz, Bligh Madris has also been selected. With no official announcement made currently, we discuss what player movements we might see.

Today was Liover Peguero’s very first MLB start in which he got his very first MLB hit and walk. Being the youngest Pirate since Aramis Ramirez to record a hit he clearly looks the part of a free swinger, but DiNardo talks about how he came away with this game and what at bat really impressed him.Even though the Pirates scored 5 runs, the pitching didn’t do its job to secure the lead. Though Jose Quintana pitched well enough, the combo of Wil Crowe and Chris Stratton didn’t pitch effectively which helped Giants come away with their 37th victory. Do you put this one on Shelton? Is it just the inadequate depth of the bullpen for this loss? This one may not be like the others.

Tim Williams Joins to Talk Pirates Prospects

Today was Roansy day, but it was a rare 8-out save in which was David Bednar's longest outing of the season sealed the win and ended the 9 game losing streak. However, is it somewhat worrisome how Shelton at time leaves you scratching his head on his bullpen usage but then also works it as if it is game 7 to secure needed victories? Does this also firmly secure Bednar as a top 5 closer?Why has it been scorching hot in St. Louis? Well, thats because Bryan Reynolds is batting .404 after going 2-for-3 in today's game in which he raised his June's average to .404. As much as the offense has struggled, he is showing to be the one constant which seems to bode well for his season outlook. Oh, and there may just be some more support coming this weekend to face the Giants. Maybe.

There was something else a bit different that he incorporated tonight that Tyler & DiNardo are even more bullish on. Though Michael Chavis capitalized on a 5th inning changeup by Zack Thompson that lead to a Pirates a 5-0 lead, it wasn’t enough to give the Pirates the win. Was Keller taken out too early? Should the correct decision have been to go with Yerry De La Santos over Anthony Banda? Let’s talk these decisions as well and the roster moves made today.

Bryan Reynolds continues pile onto his career June numbers and polishes his Atlanta series going 10-for-14 with 2 HR's. Unfortunately, his efforts were still not enough for this team to squeak out any wins this week. After giving up 2 solo shots in the first, Zach Thompson settled in nicely and pitched effectively for his remaining start. So why did Derek Shelton pull him after just 67 pitches? This decision not only irritated Jim & DiNardo, but it looked as if it likely cost the game for the Pirates.With a whopping 42 strikeout in the last 3 games, the offense has still looked very bad.
