  • Returning to Allah

    23/06/2012 Duración: 46min

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan showcases in the lecture on how we should never lose hope in Allah in spite of innumerable shortcomings and misdeeds that we might have committed in this lifetime.  Say, “O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful” (Qur’an 39:53). In the above Ayah, Allah SWT is addressing two different audiences. The first one addressed is the individual who is trying to preach Allah’s message. First and foremost, Allah SWT is talking to Prophet Muhammed ﷺ. The second one addressed in the verse is someone who has sinned so much that he has no hope of turning back to Allah SWT, and he has so much remorse and feelings of guilt that he thinks he has reached a point where there’s no way of receiving forgiveness. This sinner is being addressed through the agency of the Prophet or the da’iyah who recites and/or explains this verse to him and conveys the messag

  • The Want of Plenty, Distracted You

    23/06/2012 Duración: 36min

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves on an explicit explanation of the two Ayats from Surah At-Takathur. The purpose behind this is to make it easy for people to remember Allah, even after a Dars is done. The Ustadh hopes that if one can recite those Ayahs and enjoy something Allah SWT calls Khushoo’, concentration, humility in the prayer, then the end to the means has been achieved. The word ILHA in the Arabic Language translates it as “DISTRACTION” actually comes from the word LAHU which originally in Arabic means 2 things. It means: An entertainment. Something that preoccupies you or gets all of your attention and keeps you from doing something that was much more important. It got so much of your attention that nothing else could get your attention while you were engaged in it. AT TAKATHUR in it has 3 essential things: This word first and foremost means “THE WANT”, the desire to have more. It comes from “Kathra”- plentiness, plentifulness. The desire to have more. In other words, we are constantly worri

  • Lessons From the story of Musa (AS)

    23/06/2012 Duración: 38min

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan acquaints us with the lessons imparted to us from an amazing individual that fascinates our imagination in the Quran and he is Moosa (AS). His narrative is mentioned at many places in the Quran and every time it's mind-boggling. The Ustadh shares with us tidbits that belong to Surah Taha where the dialogue between Moosa AS and Firaun is discussed and elucidated upon. Elaborating on various Ayahs of the Qur'an via the stories shared with us, in one such instance - we are intrigued as to who Moosa AS is getting to meet? Allah! This is a conversation that is of epic proportions in human history. A conversation between Allah and human being and the conversation was initiated by Allah and the human was called by his name directly! .Moosa! This part of the Ayah is exemplary with regard to the conversation Musa AS just had. If there's one thing Moosa AS is never going to forget, it's this. What does Allah say in this conversation? Allah says, even you! if you really want to remember me, es

  • Taking Back our Marrative

    23/06/2012 Duración: 31min

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan talks about taking our narrative back and he divides the conversation into two parts - the conversation has to be taken back from the forces outside of ourselves and the forces within ourselves People have always tried to hijack the narrative which is evident in the case of all Messengers of Allah ﷺ. Their portrayal started with character assassination; of them being accused of having agendas other than their actual agenda or it being a point of ridicule. Whether it was words like magic or sorcery or whether they were accused of being liars. One of the greatest examples of that, which are repeated in the quran is the discourse between Firoun and Musa (AS).  He next talks about the exact propaganda that Islam is being painted with, by certain fringe media outlets, that exact narrative is being duplicated by certain Muslims that are calling for their definition of Jihad fisabillillah and writing blogs and articles and papers and there are a string of aayat and ahadith and many are victi

  • 16. Are you Living a Dream

    23/06/2012 Duración: 27min

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves and ponders on finding the true purpose of our existence with a “Thought Process”. Human beings have a sense of common decency across religions and cultures. So when we realized that there is a Creator, we also realized that He has created us in such a powerful way and He has given you abilities that He has not given to any other creatures. So when we acknowledge there’s a Creator and He created us amazingly well, with this profound intellect that He gave us and all these faculties and abilities – then what purpose do I have? We go back to the Creator to find our purpose and ask Him because He is the One who designed us.  Once we have reached this “Thought Process”, what’s our next step? We turn to the mysterious Creator declare one thing to Him that I acknowledge that you are my Creator; I acknowledge that I am supposed to be in service to You. Whatever I do in this life is supposed to live up to the purpose that you set for me, but I cannot fulfill that purpose on my own beca

  • 15. Being The Best to our Parents

    23/06/2012 Duración: 25min

Usthad Nouman Ali Khan delves into the pertinent and essential topic of being the best version of ourselves whilst we are with our parents. In Surah Al Isra, Verses 23 to 25, “And Your Lord has decreed that you Worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age In your life, Say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address them In terms of honour. And lower unto them the wing of submission and humility through Mercy, and say: "My Lord! Bestow on them Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was small. Your Lord knows best what is in your inner-selves. If you are righteous, then, Verily, He is ever Most forgiving to those who turn unto Him again and again In obedience, and In repentance.” Allah is demanding from us nothing short of our best when it comes to our parents. We have to be good, patient, merciful, charitable or to have the courtesy to our parents. The status of the parents is second only to the status of Allah SWT.the eas

  • 12. Responsibility of ''Being Witness to Humanity''

    22/06/2012 Duración: 44min

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves into a deep discussion on what it actually means to be responsible for being witness to Humanity. In the Qur'an, Surah Al Baqarah, Verses 142 - 143, “The foolish among the people will say, "What has turned them away from their qiblah, which they used to face?" Say, "To Allah belongs the east and the west. He guides whom He wills to a straight path."And thus we have made you a just community that you will be witnesses over the people and the Messenger will be a witness over you. And We did not make the qiblah which you used to face except that We might make evident who would follow the Messenger from who would turn back on his heels. And indeed, it is difficult except for those whom Allah has guided. And never would Allah have caused you to lose your faith. Indeed Allah is, to the people, Kind and Merciful.” Allah SWT exposes in Surah Al Baqarah that there was a knowledgeable group among the Jewish community of Madinah that looked to this Messenger ﷺ and found that every single d

  • 11. The Coolness of Eyes

    22/06/2012 Duración: 40min

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves into an analysis of the following verse from the Holy Qur'an. “And those who say: Our Lord! Bestow on us from our wives and our offspring who will be the comfort of our eyes, and make us leaders for the Muttaqun.’” (Al-Furqan 25:74)  It is clear that the purpose of this Dua that we make often is due to our incessant inward love and fondness for our family. We strive endlessly into making them acquainted with the main principles and positive laws of Islam and the paths of truth and justice. The Arabic phrase “qurrata ‘ayn” means the apple of one’s eye, which basically means a person who is the cause of happiness and pride. This is originally derived from the word “qurr” which means coolness and since it is said that the tears of eagerness and happiness are always cool, the phrase means something that causes the eyes of a man to cool down. This implies happiness and joy. The Muttaqin acquire the qualifications of greatness and leadership in a way that all the required attributes

  • 10. Characteristics of the People of Jannah

    21/06/2012 Duración: 23min

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves into the important characteristics of the Dwellers of Jannah in this enlightening lecture. In Surah Ale Imran, verses 133 to 136, “Be quick in the race for forgiveness from your Lord, and for a Garden whose width is that (of the whole) of the heavens and of the earth, prepared for the righteous. Those who spend (freely), whether in prosperity, or in adversity; who restrain anger, and pardon (all) men- for Allah loves those who do good. And those who, having done something to be ashamed of, or wronged their own souls, earnestly bring Allah to mind, and ask for forgiveness for their sins,- and who can forgive sins except Allah?- and are never obstinate in persisting knowingly in (the wrong) they have done. For such the reward is forgiveness from their Lord, and Gardens with rivers flowing underneath,- an eternal dwelling: How excellent a recompense for those who work (and strive).” In the above verses, Allah SWT describes some characteristics of people of Jannah that can be summar

  • 9. Contradicting Community

    21/06/2012 Duración: 54min

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan explicitly talks about the people that are trying to hold on to any strand of religion but have become the outcasts of this ummah in their own homes and family and are the objects of ridicule. If one is studying the deen and destroying family relations at the same time, we must realize that our priorities are somewhere they shouldn’t be. It is paramount that we fix family ties. This is a fundamental of our religion. It’s a fundamental premise of our Deen.  How do we go about preaching religion without making it a big deal? We should strive to make da’ee and da'wah as nothing but rather, we must learn to take the hits and the insults and live with them. We must endeavor to change their behavior towards us. Be the best to your family and that is the da'wah of Islam.  Hence, it is essential that we pray to Allah to give us a sense of perspective and concern for the rest of this ummah and to teach us how to use our knowledge wisely and to deliver the words of advice and our naseehah in a

  • 8. Quran and Science

    21/06/2012 Duración: 01h14min

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan takes up a topic of intrigue and is laced with interest for the modern generation. This lecture deals with the concept of science in the Quran. The Quran in Muslim belief is two things in one. It’s a divine message but at the same time, it is also a miracle. Miracles are a religious thing and are certainly not a scientific thing. What is a miracle in Islam? The classical scholars of Islam have enlisted many conditions for something to be considered a miracle according to Islamic theology: Something that is impossible for human beings to do or perform. A miracle has to be something that can’t be manufactured.  Something that breaks the laws of nature. Something that challenges mankind.  In Arabic, Islamic scholars use the word - Mu’jiza- for describing a miracle. Mu’jiza means that which incapacitates the opponent and to overpower the opponent. But the word used in religious text – in Quran – and also in the Sunnah, the word used is Ayah. The word Ayah, however, is translated in

  • 5. Signs of a Hypocrite

    20/06/2012 Duración: 29min

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan acquaints us with the signs of a hypocrite and how one should be wary of them. Allah (SWT) tells us in the Quran, “The hypocrites, they are in the lowest pit of Hellfire.”The lower the hellfire gets, the tougher it gets. The lowest pit possible in Hellfire is reserved for al-Munaafiqoon—the hypocrites. Allah tells His Messenger ﷺ twice in the Quran: It is all the same for them whether you ask forgiveness for them or do not ask forgiveness for them; never will Allah forgive them. (Quran; Surah al-Munaafiqoon, ayah 6) These people have reached a point of no return in their hypocrisy. It would be the same for them whether you made istighfar for them or you didn’t make istighfar for them. It means that Allah is telling His Messenger ﷺ that if you ask Allah to forgive them or you never asked, it wouldn’t make a difference. Allah wouldn’t forgive the hypocrites. It is also mentioned in the Quran Allah says, “If you should ask forgiveness for them seventy times - never will Allah forgive th

  • 3. Why should I believe in God?

    20/06/2012 Duración: 23min

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan discusses at length about the topic - Why should I believe in God?  "How do you know that God exists?”  “How do you come to faith?” “How did faith come to you?"  These are the pertinent questions asked by an atheist and Ustadh tries to elaborate on the answers with soundproof. We are now acquainted with the Quran’s reasoning. The Quran does not ask the question or answer the question “Does God exist?”. The Quran is Allah speaking himself. And He is in conversation with his creatures. He is in direct conversation with us. The only question He asks is -“Do you really believe it is Me talking? Do you really believe that these words are my own?” One is not hearing Allah’s words; infact we are hearing the voice of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.  “Are there other God that you should be worshipping besides Myself?” “Do you think that you are going to worship yourselves and not Me?” “Do you think that you are going to thank others other that Myself?” These are the kinds of questions that the Qu

  • 2. Islamophobia

    20/06/2012 Duración: 32min

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan analyses the goals of Islamophobia and the need for Muslims to comprehend the tricks being adopted for the same. He advises a spiritual and pragmatic approach to be adopted. He goes on to examine the reason for this xenophobia and Islamophobia that is widely prevalent around us. He assists the Muslims via ways to overcome such trials and tribulations in any part of the world. The unprecedented hatred against the Muslims, the rise of anti-Islamophobic crimes and much more can be attributed largely to ignorance of the people and also due to genuine worry and fear for their own kith and kin. The hatred, animosity, and misinterpretation that we see around us is actually the result of the people being terrified and scared due to the thought of having to part with his freedom and being jeopardized. Our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ has said: "Later times are going to be afflicted with trials you are going to find difficult to bear" and "Every time one comes, it will make the previous one look trivial"
