The victim mindset is really limiting and really destructive.   By victim mindset, I mean a mindset that tells you: •that you have no choice but to be a passive recipient of harm from other people; •that you have no agency; •that you need to keep on feeling sorry for yourself. The victim mindset is pervasive in American culture today, and it’s holding us back. Thanks be to God there is an alternative way to live. For example, the Apostle Paul never adopts a victim mindset, even when he’s in prison! Let’s talk about it.

How is it possible that you can have all your physical needs met—three hots and a cot—and still not be happy? Answer: because our deepest needs are spiritual in nature. If it were not so, then none of us—all of whom have clothes to wear, food to eat, and dry places to sleep—would ever be unhappy. What’s the secret, then? How can we learn to be content with all our blessings? In his farewell remarks to the Philippians, the Apostle Paul tells his friends that he has learned the secret to being content in all situations. Let’s talk about it. Scripture: Philippians 4

Whenever I talk about Christ’s command for us to love other people, i.e., to will the good of other people, folks often ask:   But what about Person X, who is actively doing evil against me—how should I love that person?   It’s a really good question.  Sooner or later in life, you will have enemies—people with malevolent intent towards you.   As a follower of Jesus, how should we engage with our enemies?   Is there a Christlike way to fight back?   YES.

What do you do when you're stuck and don't know how to break-through? What should you be looking for? Here's a hint: look at how the Apostle Paul prays for the Philippian church.

Jesus had prepared his entire life for the last week of his life.

What do we do when we have lost our dreams? When what we always hoped seems to have completely faded away?  This weeks message is about rediscovering our dreams, and changing our perspective to see the life Jesus has made for us. He is our story author. Paul the Apostle knew this on his road to Rome. He made it but not the way he expected.
