Last time in Acts we saw the skilled attorney Tertullus, bring charges against Paul for starting riots, being the leader of a heretical sect of Judaism, and even attempting to desecrate the temple. But Paul’s defense was simply that each charge they had levied against him was not witnessed by anyone there. Instead, this is the Jews’ way of trying to get Rome to settle a Jewish religious dispute.
