Mia Andrews is an American girl, adopted at birth from a South Korean orphanage, now on a tour of North Korea with her rebellious older brother Simon and their aid-worker father. Then Mia receives forbidden, explosive photos of the North Korean work camps, right as their father is arrested by the North Korean government.
