In already a record year for auto/pedestrian collisions, another staggering statistic was added over the course of Wednesday night/Thursday morning: Fourteen pedestrians were struck by cars between 6 p.m. on Wednesday and 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, said Toronto police Const. Clint Stibbe. One incident sent an 18-year-old man to hospital with serious injuries. The crash happenedjust before 7:30 a.m. at Islington Ave. and The Queensway. Another woman suffered life-threatening injuries in another collision on College St. near Palmerston Blvd. around 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Another pedestrian who was struck by a different vehicle at the intersection was also taken to hospital, said Toronto police. Soggy conditions in the GTA overnight were likely a factor in many of the collisions, says Toronto Police.
