NFL punter Chris Kluwe (who's straight, for what it's worth) claims he was let go because of his advocacy for gay rights. Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, recently retired footballer Thomas Hitzlsperger has revealed that he's gay and is calling for people to put pressure on Russia over that country's anti-gay developments ahead of the Sochi Olympics. (And speaking of athletes, 95-year-old Belgian masters athletics champion Emiel Pauwels decided to end his own life rather than suffer the physical, emotional and financial pain of terminal cancer.
