He has conducted a long line of research on agents such as pentobarbital, d-amphetamine, and cocaine. His research has primarily been concerned with behavioral factors that influence whether and the degree to which tolerance develops in the face of repeated exposure. His work has been supported continuously for 30 years by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and has been published in flagship journals in both behavior analysis and pharmacology.
