President Higgins travelled to Belfast, to announce the name of the new Ireland Professor of Poetry. Every three years a poet of honour and distinction is chosen to represent the Ireland Chair of Poetry Trust as Ireland's Professor of Poetry. During their tenure the holders spend a year attached to each of the three participating universities – Queen's University Belfast, Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin – and resides for a period of approximately eight weeks at each.
