"But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind" (James 1:6). That scripture is pretty cut and dry, right? We ask God for what we want and need and we stand on those petitions. We don't waver, we don't toss, and we don't turn. We stand firm. It doesn't matter how long it takes, just believe He will do it and He will do what He said He would do. How do we know what He said? Well, reading the bible until something resonates with you, is something that you can stand on and there's no denying it for you. You have to find that scripture that works for you, stand on it, and continue to.
