Shavuot is also called the Feast of Weeks and Pentecost. According to Jewish tradition, God gave the law on Shavuot. Thus, Shavuot celebrates the giving of the law and the revelation on Mount Sinai. According to Acts 2:1-4 it was on Shavuot that the Spirit of God was poured out on the believers and the "church" ("called out ones") was created.The primary passage in the Hebrew Scriptures that addresses Shavuot is Leviticus 23:15-22. In verse 15, the Jewish people are told to "count seven full weeks from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering."
