Continuing with the 7 days of Kwanzaa series, we have today's principle, Ujima. It means collective work and responsibility. And how I interpret this as has always been the course of my life is that people & meaningful relationships are the currency of life.

A business' success heavily depends on the relationships it forms with its customers. On today's episode, I want to share some strategies that I've employed over the past five years to maintain a healthy business and strong client relationships.

"Kujichagulia" (Ku-jee-cha-goo-lee-a) Means Self-Determination. It means to be responsible for your own behavior because you're in control of your own ship. And the minute that you start understanding that, is the minute you start unlocking so much better behavior.

The name Kwanzaa comes from the phrase 'matunda ya kwanza' which means 'first fruits' in the Swahili language. Today's word is Umoja, which means Unity.

You need to have some version of an end goal otherwise every action you take will almost be futile in your attempt to figure out your own path. Calibrating you’re actions based on your end goal, passion, and around practiced self-awareness is a start to happiness. Please have that honest conversation with yourself.

I truly believe that building a personal brand has to do 2 core things. Distributing content around a topic that you're passionate about, and disproportionately caring for the audience that you're looking to reach. Too often I see people selfishly creating content and they wonder why they aren't breaking through the 'glass ceiling'. Once you begin from a place of empathy for the audience and passion around your content, if you're good, you'll break through!

It’s so important to start your journey. The longer you wait, ponder on your execution and delay sharing your story with the world. This conversation with my friend Jayvon is a call to action to share content!

Being grateful comes from deep within your soul. I truly believe that as much as the media paints a negative image of the world that things are truly significantly better. All of us can share our voices without being blocked off by 4 old white men in an office. We're going to live longer, we can communicate with each other at scale, and more. Yes things aren't perfect, yes bad things do happen, but I refuse to not be thankful for the life that I have! Remember, you are in control. In order to truly deal with people, we have to understand ourselves. Any successful business has a host of meaningful people core to the functioning of it. The founder's DNA typically trickles down into the flow of the business and it's important that we as leaders understand ourselves before we get involved in a people oriented thing such as a business.

As the intenet continues to eat everything in our world, a strong reputation or brand will be the final frontier of business. Yes your sales work right now, and they’ll continue to work for a long time. But please don’t let that cloud your vision on the fact that you need to spend an equal amount of time branding and providing people upfront value!

If you wait for something like new years as the lever to change you're bad habits, you might be a procrastinator. In order to truly affect change in your life, it starts now. Not tomorrow, next week, or next month. We have to get more serious about auditing our behaviors if we truly want to make progress for ourselves.
