Teenage dating! What a wild ride! As teenagers Michael and Rebecca had some pretty valuable life lessons. Today we're sharing our biggest take aways from dating around to many different people and also having steady relationships! Becca dated a lot of guys and found one she really liked! They dated for 2 years but never kissed! While Michael dated only 1 girl but it was for a couple years as well. But they didn't get along very well for the majority of their courtship. But despite their constant arguing and fighting they really liked each other a lot! Would we do it again? Maybe to learn these lessons. But might do some things differently. Rebecca was an artist since childhood and she really excelled as a student of art through high school and well into college! She sold some of her paintings and she won awards with her art as well as her ceramics! Michael fell in love with beekeeping as a teenager spending a summer with his grandpa and learning from him! Michael and Rebecca share the stories from their childhood of their first jobs! Becca's first job was a call center doing out bound telemarketing calls! That was a tough job! She only lasted 2 weeks. After that she worked at a hardware store. That was much better but she worked there for a whole year! Meanwhile, Michael's first job was Burger King but he had to ride a bike to and from work because he didn't have a drivers license yet. That lasted 2 months and then he worked at a couple grocery stores. The future is bright! We've had a rough past several months and we even recorded a few podcast's we'll probably never post because the pain and struggle was too raw and real in the moment! What is the purpose of the education system? Is it to teach children the needed skills and knowledge to be successful in todays world? If so, why are they not teaching the principals of the most successful people? I submit to you that learning how to self educate is far more valuable than what is actually taught. Because that opens the doors of the world before you! If you can learn to LOVE learning and have a passion and drive to self teach and self educate, you will be far more advanced than any public schooled counterpart. Now, you might be thinking, what about a social life? I believe the answer is simple: Don't shelter kids from the world. They need to have a chance to meet other children, make friends, and work out communication skills! Unless public school is a glorified free babysitter. Then I suppose that's the best option! When you don't live in Utah and you're a teenage member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, you probably attend an early morning Seminary! We would get up before the sun came up every school day and get together to have an hour long class about lessons from the scriptures! It was a very fun and memorable time in my life! Becca on the other hand, growing up in Utah got to attend Seminary at her local high school during any typical period! We talk all about what we learned and driving friends to school. That comes with its own challenges and it's also really fun! Haha. Michael also shares about his first car accident. Michael and Becca both share stories of going through puberty. Along with that the other challenges of childhood, Bullying! We've talked about this before when we were younger, but as teens the bullying continued. We also talk about something a bit more difficult. Our own experiences bullying others. Specifically, we both would bully our own siblings. Looking back we feel terrible about the cruelty of the we treated out own brothers and sisters. But we have learned from it and would never think about doing anything like that again. We have asked their forgiveness and have been vigilant to make sure our kids are kinder to one another than we were to our siblings. Growing up is so difficult! Happy New Year! We are super excited about our own personal goals and dreams for 2020! In 2019 we bought our dream home and had our 5th child, Max. That's going to be hard to beat! But being totally honest with myself and serious about my goals for 2020, I can seriously say I think it's going to be even bigger! We're set up for success this new year like no other before! We're launching multiple new businesses that will all be huge growth opportunities for us personally and as a family! But something we didn't mention in the podcast is our new business that will allow us to help others reach their dreams. Today we talked all about how Michael's family moved to this big house in the middle of nowhere and it was full of bugs and spiders. But it was on an acre lot with lots of room to play and explore! Meanwhile, Becca's family moved to the country in Utah and her family went through a bankruptcy! She spent most of her life growing up in poverty and quite poor for most families in Utah. Michael shares about a family trip he went on at age 9 in 1996! His family drove all the way from their home in Orlando Florida to visit some family in Utah and Oregon! Then they drove all the way home. Meanwhile, Rebecca shares some of her public school experience as she was trying to become popular with the cool kids! She shares a bit about the things she would do that she wasn't proud of but made her feel cool with the popular kids. Ultimately she decided that kind of person wasn't who she wanted to be and she didn't feel good about what she was doing. At school he had some friends, but a lot of kids would bully him and make him feel bad. They would punch or kick him and call him names. Becca shares some stories about her family and why her parents had so many kids! She even shares some of her parents early struggles with giving birth premature and losing a child, to infertility. When you're a child, one single traumatic event can change your life. It can haunt you and you may never recover from it. Today we talk about a few things that happened to us when we were young that we remember. Rebecca was sexually abused at the age of 4 by a neighborhood boy. After going to court over it they determined she would not have any lasting damage from the event. Today she says she remembers it but has no baggage. We're all caught up on our life to date and so we begin adding episodes to our "Season 2" Playlist in which we will tell the stories of our childhoods and lessons learned along the way! We begin this season with sharing our first memories of life and a few other memories on our mind. Thinking back on very early childhood can be difficult. I feel like those memories are always a bit fuzzy and possibly tainted with all the re-tellings over the years. Becca's grandma was 98 years old and she lived a very full life! She had 6 kids, 111 Grandkids and 1 Great-grandchild! That's a lot of posterity. We discuss the struggle dealing with this loss and saying goodbye to her all the while we're juggling putting on a good show for our 5th CVX Live! Let me just say, this has been a challenging week and very difficult to get through! But we're doing better now and wanted to share what's going on in our live at the moment!
