  • Hammer House of Podcast - Episode 14

    13/02/2019 Duración: 01h03min

Hello! And welcome to the fifth episode of Hammer House of Podcast, where Paul Cornell (Doctor Who, Elementary) and L.M. Myles (Verity!) discuss, in order of UK release, every horror movie made by Hammer Film Productions between 1955 and 1976, from The Quatermass Xperiment to To the Devil… A Daughter. In this month's Hammer House of Podcast, we reach 1960's The Two Faces of Dr Jekyll. Don't let the title fool you, there's only one face, but it comes in bearded and clean-shaven version. Marvel at how both Jekyll and Hyde are awful people! Delight that Christopher Lee has a real proper acting part that he's very good at! And despair at the endless can-can scenes! • Hammer House of Podcast - Episode 13

    13/01/2019 Duración: 01h12min

After the success of Hammer's first vampire film, The Horror of Dracula, Dracula is back in their first sequel, The Brides of Dracula! ...oh, no, he's not. Oh dear. Not to worry, what need have we for Dracula when there's Peter Cushing? And he actually is back as the marvellously dashing Van Helsing, ready to save the world - or at least Transylvania and the Lower Danube - from the evils of vampirism in one of Hammer's most magnificent movies. • Hammer House of Podcast - 2018 Christmas Special Commentary

    20/12/2018 Duración: 01h30min

Hello! And welcome to the Hammer House of Podcast, where Paul Cornell (Doctor Who, Elementary) and L.M. Myles (Verity!) discuss, in order of UK release, every horror movie made by Hammer Film Productions between 1955 and 1976, from The Quatermass Xperiment to To the Devil… A Daughter. For our first Christmas episode (and to fufill our official Patreon support obligation) we've made our first commentary! Sit back, relax, and enjoy the marvellous Doctor Who and the Daleks. It's Doctor Who in colour for the first time, with the Peter Cushing off to Skaro to defeat some very colourful, very angry mutants. While not a Christmas movie, it is a warm and cosy family movie that we hope you enjoy. And a happy Christmas to all of you at home! • Hammer House of Podcast - Episode 12

    13/12/2018 Duración: 57min

It's something a bit different this month, and not in a fun way. 1960's Never Take Sweets from a Stranger is a superb and powerful film, still shockingly relevant and very dark. So here's our first content warning: in this episode we're discussing a film with themes of paedophilia and the sexual abuse of children. • Hammer House of Podcast - Episode 11

    13/11/2018 Duración: 57min

This month it's time for The Man Who Cheated Death, about a man...who cheats death. Christopher Lee's in it, which is lovely, and he wears a tux. Alas, his tux-wearing skills are not quite good enough to distract from the endless five hour scenes where words start to lose all meaning. For one of us; Paul was clearly watching an entirely different movie and didn't think the world would end before we reached the end credits. • Hammer House of Podcast - Episode 10

    13/10/2018 Duración: 55min

In this month's episode we encounter a mummy. Not the actual original mummy, but a rewrite of Universal's original mummy in The Mummy (1959). Hammer have been freed from the shackles of legal worry, having reached an agreement wiht Universal that means they can now nick their plots and monster designs. Is this a good idea? No. Not really. The Mummy might have Peter Cushing as our dashing hero, and Christopher Lee as the monster, but it's no Dracula, or Curse of Frankenstein. On the bright side, Christopher Lee is wears gold nail polish, and if you have a short memory for plot, you're in luck! This film will remind you again and again of what just happened.   Support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/HHoP F

  • Hammer House of Podcast - Episode 9

    13/09/2018 Duración: 01h06min

In this month's episode we arrive at Hammer's first and only foray into the world of Sherlock Holmes. It's 1959's The Hound of the Baskervilles, where Peter Cushing does some spectacular running through mist and moor, and one of us genuinely thinks the Great Dane in a mask looks scary. And we've also got a special guest! It's James Goss, writer of many excellent things, but most relevant here is his play, The Gentlemen of Horror, a poignant and intimate work exploring the friendship between Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee through the decades. • Hammer House of Podcast - Episode 8

    13/08/2018 Duración: 01h19min

This month it's The Revenge of Frankenstein, sequel to the superb Curse of Frankenstein. Can it possibly live up to its predecessor? Well, it does feature rather more guinea pigs, so it's off to a good start. And these ones wheek. More importantly, there's Peter Cushing dashing around the place, cutting up chicken and people, and working on fixing all his mistakes of the first film. Hurrah! Character development! We apologise for the length of this episode. We rather liked the movie. Support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/HHoP Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/HammerHousePod

  • Hammer House of Podcast - Episode 7

    13/07/2018 Duración: 55min

The Snorkel. There is a film called The Snorkel. And that's what we're discussing in this week's Hammer House of Podcast. Is it a horror? Probably not. Is it any good? Yes, yes it is. And not just because there's a sneaky murder plan where a snorkel is integral. There's also a plucky girl detective and her dog, Toto, who are going to solve this mystery, beautful location filming in Italy, and a murderer who only knows two ways to kill people: drowning, and death by snorkel shenanigans. • Hammer House of Podcast - Episode 6

    13/06/2018 Duración: 01h12min

This episode we're discussing 1958's Dracula or, as the Americans call it, The Horror of Dracula, where we marvel at Christopher Lee's silhouette, and make no comment at all on how utterly dashing Peter Cushing is. For this episode we have a special guest: Marcus Hearn, Hammer's official historian, joins us and shares his marvellously vast knowledge of this groundbreaking film. • Hammer House of Podcast - Episode 5

    13/05/2018 Duración: 01h03min

This episode we're discussing 1957's The Abominable Snowman, where Peter Cushing really wants to find a Yeti. It's full of very impressive snow and mountains, fear, paranoia, and a monkey that has no business being 8000 feet above sea level. But are the Yeti themselves fluffy enough? The answer is no. There might be some deep, philosphical themes going on here, but without proper fluffy Yeti, can we actually appreciate them?  Support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/HHoP Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/HammerHousePod

  • Hammer House of Podcast - Episode 4

    13/04/2018 Duración: 54min

Hello! And welcome to the fourth episode of Hammer House of Podcast, where Paul Cornell (Doctor Who, Elementary) and L.M. Myles (Verity!) discuss, in order of UK release, every horror movie made by Hammer Film Productions between 1955 and 1976, from The Quatermass Xperiment to To the Devil… A Daughter.   In this episode we’re discussing 1957’s Quatermass 2, where Brian Donlevy once again causes despair as he upsets the carefully laid plans of some aliens who just want to help out the British economy. Probably. Learn about the poor condition of roads in the north of Britain! Marvel at the tiny little spaceship-shaped meteorites! Breathe a sigh of relief that this is the last we see of Brian Donlevy's Quatermass! Support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/HHoP Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/HammerHousePod

  • Hammer House of Podcast - Episode 3

    13/03/2018 Duración: 01h05min

Hello! And welcome to the third episode of Hammer House of Podcast, where Paul Cornell (Doctor Who, Elementary) and L.M. Myles (Verity!) discuss, in order of UK release, every horror movie made by Hammer Film Productions between 1955 and 1976, from The Quatermass Xperiment to To the Devil… A Daughter. In this episode of Hammer House of Podcast we're discussing 1957's The Curse of Frankenstein, Hammer's first colour movie and the most influential British horror film of them all (probably). Peter Cushing's in this one! He's in it a lot! He's brilliant, he is. Alas the entire podcast is not about how amazing Peter Cushing is; we also cover such topics as how bad parenting can lead to your kid going body-snatching, why you shouldn't be distracted by guinea pigs, and how annoying it is when guillotines don't drop.    Support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/HHoP Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/HammerHousePod

  • Hammer House of Podcast - Episode 2

    13/02/2018 Duración: 53min

Hello! And welcome to the second episode of Hammer House of Podcast, where Paul Cornell (Doctor Who, Elementary) and L.M. Myles (Verity!) discuss, in order of UK release, every horror movie made by Hammer Film Productions between 1955 and 1976, from The Quatermass Xperiment to To the Devil… A Daughter. This episode we're discussing 1956's X the Unknown where one of us is ever so pleased it's set in Scotland, there is an entirely reasonable argument about whether a goopy-porridge like substance from the Earth's core is a metaphor for nuclear war, and we are ever so delighted to have an American scientist not played by Brian Donlevy. • Hammer House of Podcast - Episode 1

    13/01/2018 Duración: 58min

Hello! And welcome to the first actual proper episode of the brand new podcast Hammer House of Podcast, where Paul Cornell (Doctor Who, Elementary) and L.M. Myles (Verity!) discuss, in order of UK release, every horror movie made by Hammer Film Productions between 1955 and 1976, from The Quatermass Xperiment to To the Devil… A Daughter. In this episode we're talking about 1955's The Quatermass Xperiment (with an X - very important) where there is an entirely reasonable and moderate amount of discussion on early rocketry, and any theorising about Quatermass's secret German origins is solid and well-founded. (We also apologise in advance to any Brian Donlevy fans.) Support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/HHoP Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/HammerHousePod

  • Hammer House of Podcast - Episode 0

    11/12/2017 Duración: 23min

Episode 0 is an introduction to Hammer House of Podcast, setting out where Paul and Liz are starting in their monthly watch of Hammer horror movies, which movies they’re going to see, and the extras you can get for supporting them.  Plus, Paul talks a lot about the movie that isn’t where they’ll be starting: Four-Sided Triangle.   Support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/HHoP Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/HammerHousePod
