  • BUDDHA BEATS — Episode 83 / Techno

    24/12/2022 Duración: 01h09min

This is the last BUDDHA BEATS mix of 2022. This year, I made some pretty big strides. When I look back at how far I’ve come, it seems makes me feel amazing to see that I achieved so much . Today I also released the discography for the first ten years of the Daibutsu Music label. It’s got 100 tracks, and that’s nothing to sneeze at. Normally, I would have a video recording of the mix being made, but when I got home from work, and finally got to make the mix, I just turned on the decks, and recorded it straight to my iPod Touch. I didn’t even fire up the computer, the visuals, or the cameras. I’m being honest here, I was tired from work. Retail during the Christmas season is ridiculous, and I’m sure I don’t have to tell anyone about that for you to get the gist of what I’m saying.. But, listening back to this, it turned out so well. So, with that, I want to say Merry Christmas / Feliz Navidad, and Happy New Year to you!

  • BUDDHA BEATS 80 - Juneteenth 2022

    24/06/2022 Duración: 01h43min

Juneteenth, 2022. Last year’s mix was fun, but this time, I wanted to bring some attention to the people who bring us these amazing performances, ideas that eventually became hits, even if only in the most underground of spaces. This mix features House and Techno legends like King Britt, DJ Dozia, Carl Cox, Kerry Chandler, Todd Terry, Mike Huckaby, Idris Elba, and Green Velvet. Along with singers like Whitney Houston, Martha Wash, Jocelyn Brown, Rainie Lassiter, and Billy Porter. These people inspired the likes of The Funkboys, Komanche and myself to continue to move the music forward. Happy Juneteenth, Pride, and Black Music Month. Enjoy!

  • BUDDHA BEATS - Episode 79 / Techno & Rave Classics

    23/05/2022 Duración: 01h26min

When I had started going to raves back in the 90's, the only "online" places were CompuServe, Prodigy, AOL, and if you really knew what you were doing, you would log on to a BBS — a Bulletin Board System. And these were used for chatting with people across the country, and depending on what you logged into, even the world. I remember logging into a BBS one night, and learning of a rave party once. Other than that, the best way to learn of the parties were flyers and word of mouth. And, once you learned of the party, in order to throw off the authorities, there were map-point hotlines. You would call from the first one, find out where the next one was to get to the party. Sometimes it was in a decrepit or dilapidated building or warehouse. These were called Illegal or "Outlaw" raves. That being said, the DJs, and the music you heard at these events were magical. Now that I'm older, and have amassed quite a nice catalog of tracks from that area in various formats (CD/vinyl/MP3s), I always wanted to play at one

  • BUDDHA BEATS - Episode 78 / House 2 Techno

    23/04/2022 Duración: 01h25min

I really miss riding on  the train, and often think about Japan, London, and France — the subway systems that I've ridden outside of the U.S. I got my DJ name from an a beautiful moment I spent with my father, who passed on his love of train rides to me. So this month's mix leaves the station in the deep house area with Andrius Zamba's "London Underground" (London's subway system, also known as "The Tube"), which I have ridden. From here, it's a smooth ride until we get past the 7th track, "My Lips" by Crazibiza, and onto "Sunglasses" by 2Lovers where everything picks up a bit. We even enter Tech House territory before ending up in the land of Techno, with Ramon Tapia's "Bang The Box". Let me know what you think!

  • BUDDHA BEATS - Episode 76 / Deep to Disco

    23/02/2022 Duración: 02h12min

February 23rd, 2022, and the COVID-19 Pandemic is still going on. The rise of crime and violence has climbed to a point where you have to seriously think about going out, with all the robberies, murders, and carjacking going on. With all of that going on, it got me thinking about all the fun nights I’ve had, clubs and raves I’d been to, the people I had met at them, and all the amazing music I’ve heard. Almost subconsciously, I immediately went to the computer and started picking tracks that would have me on the floor all night back then. When I was finished, I looked over the track list and then it hit me — I had created the longest house set for the show. And it covers quite a few shades of house music too! I wanted to revisit those hot, sweaty nights, where race, financial status, car you drove, the job you had, didn’t matter. Back then it was all about the music, and having a good time through dancing. Still the best way to exercise, and the most cathartic way I know to ease the soul. Rather than wish for

  • BUDDHA BEATS - Episode 75 / TECHNO

    23/01/2022 Duración: 01h09min

  • BUDDHA BEATS - Episode 74 / House

    23/12/2021 Duración: 01h20min

Episode 74 is the last one of 2021, and I thought it best to do a house music set. There are tracks from Dusky, Basement Jaxx, Aphrohead, Robbie Rivera, Chus & Ceballos, Federico Scavo, and The Shapeshifters with Billy Porter. Have a happy holiday, and a wonderful new year. See you in 2022!

  • BUDDHA BEATS 73

    23/11/2021 Duración: 01h07min

This month's mix is a serious exercise in the hard/dark techno genre. I have combed through my collection for the selections used here, and they're here because of their sonic characteristics as well as rhythm and danceability. There will be artist names you may have never heard of. If you hear a track you like, I urge you to go and support them. Because like yours truly, every little bit helps. Make sure you have earplugs to save your hearing, and stretch before dancing, especially to this mix, as we'll be traveling at 130+ BPMs. And I wouldn't want you to pull a muscle or anything.

  • BUDDHA BEATS — Episode 72 / Drum & Bass Mix

    23/10/2021 Duración: 01h03min

So, for this month’s mix, I wanted to return to one of the first styles I got into as a DJ. Back then, music like this fell under the name of “breakbeat”. This evolved into a much better one: DRUM & BASS. And like many other electronic genres, it has its offshoots. Jungle, Jump-Up, Tech-step, Ragga-Styles, Intelligent, Jazz-step, Atmospheric, Neurofunk, Hard-step, Dark-step, as well as Dubstep. From these we also now have the sultry, jazzy Liquid Funk (lots of beautiful vocals, very dream-like). If you want to check out some DnB artists on your own, look up Goldie, Doc Scott, DJ Rap, Aphrodite, Grooverider, Fabio, and S.P.Y. for starters. Record Labels to seek out: Metalheadz, Propa Talent, Good Lookin’, Hospital Records, Moving Shadow, and 31 Records, for some seriously sick tunes. Full track listing on www.daibutsumusic.com

  • BUDDHA BEATS — Episode 70 / HOUSE

    23/08/2021 Duración: 01h09min

  • BUDDHA BEATS — Episode 68 / Juneteenth House Mix

    19/06/2021 Duración: 01h09min

This month's mix is a grooving house mix that has some classics, as well as some tracks that have been disco-flipped so beautifully, that I had to include them. I had a lot of fun putting this mix together. There's even some "neighborhood cookout" style funk too! Lots of fun, groovy, disco-style house vibes this month. What a great way to celebrate our latest national holiday, Juneteenth!

  • BUDDHA BEATS - Episode 67 / TECHNO

    26/04/2021 Duración: 01h08min

This mix starts at 130 bpm, and climbs up throughout the whole thing, and you'll feel it build as you listen. Sure the pace may seem blistering for the uninitiated, but trust me, you'll love it! It keeps you moving the entire time. There are some classics as well as a remix of a classic that is quite awesome.

  • BUDUDHA BEATS-Episode 64

    01/12/2020 Duración: 01h29min

Episode 64 is a return to when I was doing multi-genre mix sets. With COVID-19 still keeping clubs and venues closed, and all of us off of dance floors (especially here in the US), I though it'd be good to revisit one of my favorite styles besides Techno, Disco/Funky House.
